I recall Shay McCartan was Billy Clarke’s replacement. Billy was the far superior player. I thought McCartan was a very average player compared to Clarke.

As much as I love Stuart, after a run of dodgy results we were slipping out of the plays offs.
Rahic openly said we had a couple of games we need to treat like cup games to go and win, and we put out the most negative line up at Oldham which resulted in one of the worst performances I’ve seen from City.
Not saying it was the right decision but Stuart was giving him a decision to make that’s for sure

We paid money for Jacob Hanson? Wow. Didn't he only play for us a couple of times as well?

Strictly speaking, VAT is payable on domestic transfer fees as well as agents fees, legal fees etc at the time of the transaction. But it's an academic point. Football clubs are part of the usual VAT arrangements for businesses. The buying club paying the fee claims the VAT back from HMRC by deducting it from the VAT they pay to HMRC on ticket sales etc. The selling club hands over the VAT it receives from the buying club to HMRC. The result is that in the case of a transfer fee, the VAT added to the fee paid by and received by the two clubs has no impact on the club and is the reason why transfer fees are inevitably quoted excluding VAT. As example, the Wyke transfer fee so far as the two clubs are concerned would have been £250k

Lol.. same here. I remember the face now but not much else tbh.
Strange, as it's relatively recent yet I remember players much more clearly from 40/50 years ago.
He must have left a lasting impression for someone I guess but not I.

There’s a much bigger context to this in that by that time Rahic had completely sapped the morale out of the club from top to bottom. The players had downed tools and McCall was on a hiding to nothing.

Possibly. There's always a few strikers around that had a good spell and teams will take a gamble on them for years later to see if it can be rediscovered.

I think he could do a job in L1 for sure looking at his play but Salford might be buying to get promoted. The rumour is coming from Notts fans and now Nixon has fleshed out the rumour too (so could be nonsense) but apparently they are willing to structure the deal so if they get promoted this summer, in L1 he would be matching his currently Millwall wage which is believed to be about £8.5k per week.

Came around same time as Kevin Toner (who????) and Matt Penny (who X 2?????) Players who never made it at City and quite frankly have left zero memories for me. Jones I recall scored a great goal for City at Port Vale.

We still payed more for Wyke and Jones than we got for Hanson

Sheff Utd would have paid the VAT on Hanson it wouldn’t have come to us. Just comparing the two transfers when the original poster claimed Rupp cost us promotion in 2016/17

The later transfers of McCartan and the rest were down to Edin who started to become power mad, fortunately he’s history now.

I remember listening to an interview Matt Kilgallon did on the radio and it sounded desperate. We needed reinforcements - the players knew it, Stuart knew it, but Edin did his own thing…

Was really hoping we might have brought a striker in by now
If we go into the weekend with the same attacking options, goals will be a problem,Saturday showed that
Humphrey’s miss was criminal and shows he is not a reliable goalscorer and Swan again looked lost. Kav nowhere near at this level
We have done well to hang in the top three, but failing to improve this department will ultimately see us fall back
