It's common practice for footballers to ask for the remainder of their contract paying up if their club want to move them on.

Of course we don't know the situation in this case but with only 6 month left to run I'd imagine it's highly likely Richards wanted the full money he's entitled to before moving onto Crawley which will likely be the fee Crawley paid to effectively release him early.

Compare it to the wording on Brad's transfer when his contract was cancelled by mutual consent before the move.

I thought he had had an operation to pin the shoulder,I think he has been fit for some weeks,just not in Alexander's plans.

Don’t know if he had it pinned but certainly another op. Even when pinned they still pop out regularly in a contact sport .

 

He always looked to me a few pounds over weight every time he played I don’t know if it was his natural built but because I made a point of this I watched him closely and he was constantly and I mean constantly blowing out of his arse. Good luck to him but he was a lucky lad to get a year deal from us in my opinion.
