Carlisle won't be the only club monitoring the situation.

If city got a big offer for Cook , they snap their hands off , that's how the club is run. Although Cook might be looking at the all time scoring record , and if we are still in league 2 , which we will be , they' ll give him another 3 yr contract.to take him up to 38 -39 yrs old

Cook must be feeling very frustrated with the club.Someone with his scoring record should not be plodding around in league 2,season after season. The elastic must be ready to snap.

You know that and I know that but he is and oddly we are the only ones prepared to pay him what he wants….

He’s in L2 for two reasons at the moment…We can’t get out of it and nobody in L1 or higher, is prepared to pay him a salary. Maybe they want more than we think, than “just a goal scorer”, and that’s why they aren’t prepared to pay . They see better elsewhere perhaps?

I think we are lucky in a way that despite all his goals and his worth to us being invaluable, his overall skill set is that of a fundamental league 2 striker.

correct me if im wrong, but i do believe he has never played above league 2 and with 20 goal a season strikers being as hard to find as rocking horse shit, there must be a reason why nobody , even at the lower end of L1, has taken a punt on him previously.

Is it as you say, he wants top dollar and only us will pay it, or do they seem as being unable to score goals at an higher level, in a team that perhaps isnt a conducive to him scoring or relying on him scoring as much

He played in league 1 with Walsall (13 goals, 3 assists in 43 appearances). Also played 5 games in league 1 with Tranmere but didn't score.

Nail, head & hit on all counts . His fundamentals skill set is strictly limited to L2 however the goal getting prowess in the box is probably L1 mid table. Maybe other sides prefer the skill requirement that brings others in to play , which may explain why Cookie is the only consistent scorer in the side, season on season. Nobody else in his team cohorts comes remotely close, which may explain what I’m getting at?
Before anyone gets their knickers in a twist , this isn’t knocking him , merely an observation based on fact over many seasons?

Where are the statto’s ….? Since Barrow 2014-2016 ? Andy Cooks tally V his colleagues?

Harder to dig into stats on my phone rather than the PC, but below are the assists for Cook and our other main creators in the squad for their City careers to date:
    Cook - 22 assists, av 1 every 628 mins
    Walker - 10 assists, av 1 every 711 mins
    Wright - 4 assists, av 1 every 774 mins
    Pointon - 5 assists, av 1 every 508 mins
    Pattison - 2 assists, av 1 every 675 mins
    Odour - 5 assists, av 1 every 630 mins

These are the assists for our other strikers in league games so far for their careers:
Kav - 4 EFL career assists, 1 every 776 mins
Smith - 1 EFL career assist in 4824 mins
Oliver - 18 EFL career assists, 1 every 1,204 mins

And these are goals for City, all comps:
    Cook - 81 at a goal every 170 mins
    Kav - 6 at a goal every 340 mins
Smith - 12 at a goal every 190 mins (if you take out goals against u21 teams, it's 7 goals at a goal every 298 mins)
Oliver - 6 goals at a goal every 307 mins

This is great stuff Jordan thanks.

I was more thinking how many goals has Cookie scored at all his clubs compared to his striker partnerships. An horrendous stat to work out really ?

City 100% need another striker. Kavanagh, Smith and Sanderson are all shite and Oliver is just atrocious. And can we get some competition for Sam Walker as he is undroppable due to no decent competition. I would also argue a case for another AM. Adams got injured, I think Oduor is hit and miss (he can go) and Sarcevic is yet another crock we have signed and not done our due dilligence on.

I said this in July and I will say it again. Surely the manager and the idiots in charge can see it.

Also just seen ex Wendy and City loanee Matt Penney has signed for Rochdale. 18 months out of the game.

Sharpe equally as culpable. He is a complete waste of a 6 figure wage. Has done absolutely nothing to convince me he is a good investment.

Johnson an absoluetly appalling piece of business and Sarcevic looks like a crock too. When you add Baldwin to the mix and Adams (ok that was a bad one) plus Corey Evans the alarm bells are ringing. He is utterly useless.

Getting the right striker is the issue.

Over the years City have signed a lot of ‘loanee’ strikers. So many of them have utterly failed. Over the last ten years only two stand out. Jordy Hiwula in 2016/7 and Jon Stead back in 2014/5. The rest (and there are many) have bombed at city and only someone like Marc McNulty who had a brilliant season with Coventry, have achieved a significant goal scoring record. Apart from Cook, then Kavanagh may well progress, Smith seems to have stalled, Sanderson isn’t ours and Oliver…..well perhaps terminate his contract in January, his performances and record is appalling.

I was talking to someone over the weekend who is fairly well connected at Middlesbrough and said that if he is played in the right way then Kav will bag us a hatful. Begs the question is this person really wide of the mark or is it the manager not playing to players strengths. Either way manager at fault because if Kav not good enough, shouldn't be being picked. If good enough play in a way to make him effective. Change needed now

I wonder if we still contribute to Adams wage as he was injured playing for us, or whether the insurance kicks in? Once again we're in a situation where we pay top dollar for players not even on the pitch or near the squad. Will Rupp chip in and finally get rid of the non contributers or will we try and do it on the cheap again.

I think Rupp will continue to listen to his pet budgie, so cheap, cheap, cheap it is!

So what is this unknown method of “ play” ? It suddenly won’t improve his technical capability , it certainly won’t improve his spacial awareness. Anyone can say he’d bag a hatful without saying what this style is.
We have had enough of putting square pegs in round holes , why the heck should the formation, style and “plan” change to suit someone who has had more chances to impress without really contributing anything towards our objective ?

This is what GA said in January about why he felt Kav was the right character for city.

'He didn't make any excuses, he just said' I couldn't stick the ball in the back of the net. I had chances but I just couldn't do it''.

Apparently being rubbish at scoring goals is an attribute we value at city, as long as the player holds their hand up and is honest about it! Yes he had his little purple patch towards the end of last season, but nobody should really be surprised that he hasn't carried that on when he literally told GA scoring goals wasn't his specilast subject prior to signing for us!
