We don’t score goals. Why would we want a goalkeeper and a 50th defender?

If Man City could sign a better forward than Haaland, do you really think they'd say no?

We're so used to mediocrity that we stop trying to improve certain positions now and in the future?

    LOL

Because to be blunt, the players in them positions are crap and half of them aren't even permanent signings so could be gone come January. We have players in every position, it's not quantity we lack but quality.

If Shepherd and Diabate weren't here at one point we'd have had no centre backs. Actually zero.

Like you say, both could go in January, we have little say in the matter. Shepherd is more likely to leave, imo, but could easily be the pair of them.

We should not be stopping looking at any position given the situation we're in. But I understand if people have been ground down by the low expectations.

An interesting Twitter thread, though I don’t have the confidence that we would actually spend anything other than a nominal fee on a player

That spot on , didn’t someone once say we only need 5 centre backs in the squad , yet we have to resort to two loanees and a lwb and a rwb to play as centre backs because two out of three first choice backs are mostly injured . Add suspensions and illness and we have Halliday playing on the right of a back three . He struggles to get three inches off the deck and can’t head very well !

We ain’t going anywhere with a third of the squad unavailable for selection ! It’s that bad !

That tweet is stating the obvious . We all know Posh pick up Southern Prem and CC released cast offs who drift into non league . It’s making it sound as if Posh are somehow finding non league players who haven’t been near a Prem Academy for 10 years already! We all know they have and that’s been Fry’s philosophy for Peterborough for over 25 years or so . It’s not new nor revolutionary . You need money to back it up as they recruit in volume . It only needs several to pay off and it keeps posh afloat and in a higher division .

No Posh, it’s make it look easy. I know how they do it , as some others do on here , it’s simple however it’s taken years and years to make relationships. That’s how Fry makes his and Peterborough’s money.

Just look at some of these numbers and ask yourself why they should pay so much in wages and why they would even pay a Director £400,000 a year……..?
( PS he gets a cut of all transfer income )

It needed time and effort to have the philosophy to the fund the principle in the first place .

Yeah even Peterborough fans don't get carried away with their transfer business anymore. For every signing that sells for a few million, they have 8-10 lads who they've paid high fees for on 2/3+ year deals who end up getting released.

Agree, I indicated earlier, it costs money because they recruit in volume.

I think the bigger problem is that with the whole of the squad available we still wouldn't be going anywhere.

We're regressing in terms of quality and once Cook is out we're literally the definition of league two plodders.

The fact that yet again, he is expected to do it all himself and GA making stupid comments about how he isn't bothered any of the other forwards aren't scoring because that isn't their role, is absolutely scandalous.

That's one thing about GAs term so far that I keep noticing, he really is poor at getting messages across in the media. He often contradicts within days or weeks of himself in the press over the past year. I get you have to have a guard up, you protect the players, you put out a public message of stability and all that stuff...... but sometimes its like he just forgets.

Like you say, we've got unreal Andy Cook and then 4 strikers who cant hit a barn door when they play, but don't worry everyone, they don't need to score goals. He should be lighting a fire under them privately and publicly, telling them one of them need to take that other starting shirt.

Agree Dave , the current injury shit show just speeds it up . I noted that Fleetwood were whining about their injury hit squad . Three injured …. three! That’s our back line alone .

As someone else said in another thread (sorry I cant remember who) but so many of these injuries have happened away from the pitch. I remember Kelly going off, Adams, Byrne couple of weeks out was caused during a match..... might be more but thats it off the top of my head, all the rest we seem to learn that these people are injured for lengthy periods from the T&A. Seems bizarre that so many are out by this time of the season, but also so many are caused away from the matchday.
