Reading a US soccer reddit thread on him, he gets an absolute slating for being terrible. He's had various injuries too which isn't a good sign for 23 years old. Hibs didn't take up the option on the loan because he wasn't good. The MLS club he had his next loan had an option but he didn't want to move to the MLS permanently and wanted to try England again. The guy who updates the US abroad players reddit thread said Hoppe literally had two good games for Schalke in the covid year, where all games were glorified training sessions and he's done sod all since but chase money.

I wouldn't strictly believe that 10k a week thing either. The site it's from (capology) is utter nonsense, there's a disclaimer as soon as you click on the site saying something like "the figures shown are an estimate and in no way are official figures". It thinks we were paying Jamie Walker and Alex Gilliead 5k a week each last season . It was known a few years back for basically copying the wages given to clubs on football manager and printing it as fact. Weirdly with Hoppe, they had him earing 5k a week a few years back then it jumped to 10k when he didnt sign a new deal or anything.

Don't get me wrong, he'll be on a fair whack after joining for a few million but 10k sounds mental.

 

Fully agree, there is definitely something wrong with that situation, keep well away.

 

I’d rather sign Tommy Leigh than this Hoppe guy. Leigh is much more experienced and more likely the type of guy who can do it on a wet January Saturday afternoon in Carlisle. Those are the types of guys we need, not players who have hardly played or done it anywhere.
