Discussion in 'City Talk' started by Silverbantam, Apr 28, 2024.

?

Are you happy with Jamie Walker remaining a City Player

  1. Yes give him a 2 year flat contract

  2. Yes give him a 2 year incentivised contract

  3. Yes extend his current contract for a season

  4. Offer him a 1 year deal on improved terms

  5. No, sadly injury prone, there are better options out there.

Depends what he whispered doesn't it. A pat on the head means nothing, and he could have whispered "well done, we'll sort out a new contract on Wednesday"

On the Derbyshire point, once he picked up that injury even he could probably see his playing career was over. However he has a lot of experience playing at a good level and I wonder if he has been spending time working with Bobby Pointon. Anyone who has played the game (at any level) could see the quality and skills that Bobby has but, probably due to his lack of experience he had a habit of giving the ball away, sometimes in key positions. I am convinced that is why GA hadn't been playing him. That now doesn't seem to be a problem. We all know how managers rant on about protecting the ball/ball retention.

Wise words General, I bet you've had many a quiet word before or after a campaign.

Funny you should mention that. I think ball retention is something both Kav and Bobby still need to work on. They both gave it away a lot on Saturday. That said I expect both to be big players for us next season.

Many a quiet word in Cump's ear after a campaign. Usually over a bottle of bourbon or four.

I don't disagree that he's got some talent and when he can be bothered he looks a decent player. My post was more relating to his bravery and when the chips are down and we need to battle, fight and grind out a result, Odour most certainly isn't your man when comparing him to Walker which was my original point.

Yes he has and I am not his biggest fan. However, the management team are looking at the whole season to see if each player has done enough to warrant a new contract. @Jordan@Jordan has just published stats for our players and I think he ranks as 36th! Nowhere near good enough, we want auto’s next season not scrambling around trying to get in the playoffs.

I didn't realise Jamie had played 30 games, and as you point out his injury is not an old injury that flared up, so given the right deal I'd resign Walker.

I agree but the cynical side of me asks is it because it's contract time, I think Alexander will offer another contract to keep him.

Absolutely agree on the physical comparisons. Saying that, most skilful players do tend to dodge a tackle now and again.

Was random during the Saturday early commentary. Commentators reeled off a list of birthdays and he was on there, before they were guessing Michael Fish’s age! Think it was the West Ham v Liverpool game as Stuart Pearce was one of the comms!

Not one from the sweet centre though, it would take your eye out.

I agree. I'd happily offload Smith, if possible, and replace with Ibbotson from the youth team. We can always sign/loan a striker in January if we get any injuries/poor form.
