Why call him back? could have left him there until the deal was done

Because there is a cut off point, mid Jan sometime I believe, to recall a loan player. Might as well recall straight away in case the offers to buy him are unacceptable and he can then play for us.

My opinion though is the slight ankle injury will keep him out until sold.

I think player power will ensure he is not selected tomorrow or week after if a deal hasn't been completed by then

If thats the case its a kick in the teeth for our fans who have been looking forward to seeing him bring his goalscoring form back to our club

He's already got a knock, which they''ll want to manage rather than Swindon.
I'm sure they don't want to scupper any potential deal.

    I agree.

To be fair to Jake Young, after his spell at Barrow and being frozen out with us, his career as a professional footballer wasn't in a great place.

He's earned his shot at playing in a higher division if there is an offer pending. Good luck to him.

Its naive to think that GA, the manager, doesnt have any say whatsoever.

We're not sure though yet are we whether Jake's grudge was against Bradford City as a club or just the inept MH .. ?

We would be foolish to sell JY at this point, unless it is really silly money.
How much would you have to pay to get a striker with16 goals in 22 games, we do not need to spend a penny.
Goals win games, he has shown that given the correct service he can score them, can we find that service?
Get your arm around the lad and make him feel welcome, if he flops, then let him leave in the summer.

Lets just remember this apparent 'knock' has not prevented Young from playing for Swindon.
The whole scenario is starting to be the usual bullshit smokescreen City fans have to put with

“Alexander hopes to see Young properly in training today but will not chance him at Valley Parade if he feels the striker is not 100 per cent.”

Read the T&A this morning strong interest from 2 league 1 clubs.

He’s off no doubt, my problem is we will not hold our nerve, he’ll go for peanuts. Maybe the club is expecting tickets to drop next seasons and they need to start building that coffers now.

He’s contracted to 2026 we hold the cards, he’d be staying til the summer for me.

problem with that is if he stays and does nothing between now and summer his worth is back to near zero, so we are stuck with someone we do not want and no one else does

There is talk every year of the ticket numbers dropping, but they have held steady, and probably will if the price remains similar.
I really want to see if Jake Young has grown up and improved, as i say get him back integrated and if it does not work so be it and try to move on at the end of the season.
If he is not involved tomorrow, lets hope its City being more cautious with our player, than Swindon making him play when only partly fit and failing to score in that time, i am pretty sure they would have been more reluctant to having him on the pitch, if he was there for the whole season.

I dont think that rings true. He will have credit in the bank from his Swindon spell. And he did nothing for us before, yet that was enough for Barrow and Swindon to come in for him.

He wont be short of interest in the summer - wont hold same value as he does now, but someone will take him whether its for a modest fee or another loan.

The risk you run with any player who has interest. Harry Lewis springs to mind.

100%. Not a chance he's involved this weekend.

I'm fairly confident we wont see him in the squad tomorrow, maybe the following game to give time to see if these bids materialise. We have enough strikers to see us through a game or two whilst his ankle settles. At the end of the day, if you have the chance to get a high 6 figure fee for him, you'd be daft not to at least give the chance of that bid to come in for a week or 10 days..... as long as we are actually waiting for a big bid and not even tempting to take anything low. Although we stood strong with Lewis' fee in the summer, hopefully we keep on and make sure Young goes for a decent whack, if he does.

If the bids don't come and he's here, that should be all the motivation he needs to show his loan spell wasn't a fluke and he is worthy or a proper sum and a good L1 maybe bottom Champ move next summer.

Maybe 2 clubs to keep an eye on from L1 would be Peterborough, who are linked with every U23 player who does well in L2. But if as believed Clarke-Harris is out the door soon, he might be an alternative. Also Bolton might be interested, as their striker Dion Charles is seeing Championship interest with the Bolton paper printing that Swansea and Hull have contacted the club over Charles.

While that is true (and sensible), i'm not convinced our strikers are currently enough given the last 3 games where none of them collectively have registered a goal and we haven't registered 3pts.

We need more firepower because if Cook and Smith aint scoring, and with the absence of Walker, we currently lack a goal threat.
