I posted exactly the same earlier today. . It’s the only position he can play that’s why I said it’s simple too.

Earlier when replying to @Rogered Tart

No RT, we don’t need to change anything .

He would play along side Cook or Oliver instead of Smith . He doesn’t fit anywhere else in the side it’s that simple .

 

But we’ve had a recent upturn in form and suppose Smith has a good December and we’ve moved closer to the playoffs, would we still bring Young back and drop Smith ?
Or would we bring Young back to bide his time on the bench?

 

Unless Smith suddenly starts banging them in with the frequency that Young has been scoring then, yes, he surely replaces Smith.

 

It wouldn’t surprise me if GA has already told Sparks it’s mandatory to bring him back, from his view he’s got Englands top scorer yet he can’t use him and a rival can! Sparks hinted at a familiar face coming back I believe in his last interview, so it’s most likely already been discussed.

Imagine if we leave him there, he scores 35 and Swindon end 7th and beat us to the playoffs. They’d never recover from it.

 

That part makes Zero sense.

You say that you don't agree with including the other 4 (who are midfielders btw so it's a bizarre statement anyway) and then finish it off with "far too many" to suggest we don't need Young.

At the moment we have 4 Strikers but Derbyshire, I think we can all agree, iis finished and won't play much of a part, if any.

So that leaves us with 3, one who's been very injury prone and one who has been flooded to death for 24 months now.

We absolutely need another striker if we're continuing with 2 up front, whether that be Jake Young or someone else.

 

Or we could try a partnership of Smith and Young to give Cooky a test now and again. It's not as if Cook is indispensable this season like he was last season anyway.

 

Cook, Oliver, Young and Smith can battle it out for the two places. Pretty much any combination of them probably works. If you don't score after 65 mins and the player who comes on for you does you might lose your place. Proper, real competition up front

 

Strong hint in today's T&A from GA that Young will indeed be recalled next month. Hardly surprising given he is the top scorer in the league.

This mornings article where Alexander talks about our loaned out players situations.....

GRAHAM Alexander has dropped a first public hint that Jake Young is expected to be back at Valley Parade next month.

The striker has been scoring goals for fun since joining Swindon on a season-long loan in the summer. Young is the division’s top gun on 16 – equalling his combined tally for his previous three seasons in the pro game.
Seeing the 22-year-old scoring so freely has understandably caused plenty of frustration among the City fanbase.

But City are expected to activate the recall clause in the deal in the January transfer window. Alexander confirmed they are keeping close tabs on all the players out on loan. But he obviously appreciates the keen interest in Young’s red-hot form since Mark Hughes encouraged him to go elsewhere to play.

Alexander said: “This is the game. There are different reasons why players do well at one club and not at another.

“It happens all the time. It might be the style of play, the formation, relationships with other players.

“I understand it can be frustrating. But you can only play 11 at one time so there are always going to be good players who miss out on regular game time.

“For us, it’s good to see players that belong to us going out and playing well and showing how good they are.

“It’s good we have options to bring them back and slip them into our squad if we see fit.”
Swindon are currently League Two’s leading scorers thanks to Young and sit four points above his parent club in eighth. The City man has netted in six consecutive games.

It is a remarkable transformation after being told by Hughes in pre-season that he was not in his plans and should look for a loan move.
Young, who is under contract until the end of next season, played just 45 minutes in a friendly at Bradford (Park Avenue) and was not involved in the squad’s training camp in Spain.

He turned down two offers from the National League before Michael Flynn came in to take him to Swindon on the eve of the season.
Like Ryan East, who has been impressing in the fifth tier at Rochdale, Young has enjoyed the regular opportunities that were not on offer from their former Bantams boss. But the door is now open for a potential return for the second half of the campaign.

Alexander added: “The whole thing about letting lads go out on loan is that clubs want them to play and develop their career and get game time. That’s why they go out and then you keep track.

“It’s good to see players enjoying their football and doing well. We’ve got some decisions to make in January.

“There’s plenty of time to get good wins under our belts and a good points tally and for players to either change their season round or continue what they’ve done in the first half of it.

“It’s exciting to think the amount of games we’ve got left and the potential we have with the squad – and potentially improving it in January if we can.

“Let’s look to the future with a little bit of hope.”

Flynn, who would love to keep Young at the County Ground, believes he possesses the ability to play at a higher level. At the time of Hughes’ sacking, the former City skipper said: “I don’t think it changes anything because if he keeps scoring then we won’t have to worry about him going to Bradford, it will be League One or Championship clubs trying to buy him.”

 

Agree, it will be positive and healthy for all concerned. Cook has done a fine job for us and hopefully will continue, but we will not do ourselves any favours putting all our faith in one player and we need some other options and succession planning. I am sure GA is on with this.

 

1) Withdraw him from Swindon immediately. ( Why help a potential opponent? )
2) Let it be made clear is under contract
3) Ask him and his agent what his aspirations are, either fight for a starting place or be put on the open market.
4) Act accordingly , dependant upon his response.



It’s really, really that simple, any decent manager would say the same.

A mature response from Young regarding his time at Bradford. Seems like he's used the experiences well when he could have easily taken his bat and ball home. When one door closes always look for another open door.

 

I think he comes back to training Jan 2nd at City. But I totally wouldn't be surprised if he says he wants a move and we didn't use him to keep the market open for bidders. Maybe even the whole month if he is set on leaving. Might as well keep the market open to every club in L1 and above rather than narrow it down to Swindon.

 

I just remember when we brought Doyle back and put him straight in the team. He barely broke sweat. It was almost like he couldn’t be arsed.
I’d expect the same from Young if we force him back against his will.
Time will tell.

 

Difference is, Doyle has already played for us in the August. He knew he could down tools because Swindon were going the only possible club he could join and knew they were going to come back in for him and he was eventually going to leave.

Young keeps impressing, there's no reason a team higher up with some cash to spend don't come in for him. I'm thinking if he I'd recalled, he won't play until Feb to keep options open. Might be total crap, but I saw on F365 forum that Wrexham are wanting to bid for him and aren't expected to go back in for Armstrong or Hanlan.

 

Now this where @Sergio Pinto III is right in what he was saying. Wrexham apparently bid more than half a million for Armstrong who is an average league 2 plodder. Young was unknown at this time but now is way ahead of Armstrong and as such worthy of a bid along the same lines. That is IF they Wrexham are in the market for a goalscorer.
