Yea I’m not overly excited but it’s clearly a position we needed to improve on. We rarely had anyone in the box last season who could connect with a cross. Hes a gangly and awkward forward but will fill a gap in the squad that Will Swan and co were unable to fill. If he can get us 15 goals then it’s good business.

Solid signing, I don’t like to go all in because of how someone looked against us but did cause us more issues than most strikers in the league. We aren’t going to go get a huge name who guarantees you 20+ goals with our budget, it’s a solid realistic signing and not some crap like Smith from Preston.

I think we need another forward and it maybe a younger player, trying to unearth a gem. That or another young loan, which is usually a disaster for us when we sign young loanee forwards.

His off the ball stats are really impressive, we've certainly got a guy who wants to win every challenge and press his arse off. His shooting numbers aren't incredible but in a better side fingers crossed they improve.

He was ranked 44th in L1 for shots per 90 mins at 2.18, which would have him 3rd in the City sqaud behind Humphrys & Pointon. He ranked 103rd in L1 for goals per shot, which would put him 5th in our teams numbers. He also ranked 119th for goals per shot on target, which would be the 7th best in our squad last season.

All his metrics were pretty decent until Jan when his form took a dive. He only scored in two games after the Jan window closed against Vale & Northampton. It looks like his head was turned in January and just didn't get back to it. We've finally got a guy who can press and win a header, just maybe not the best finisher around.

With what we will be able to afford it's a very good signing and let's hope the proof turns out to be in the pudding

 

Realistically they will have had no choice but to let him go unless they wanted an unhappy player and lose him on a free next summer. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a verbal agreement between Burton and the player in January for him to stay until the summer and they won't stand in his way if an agreed offer came in.
For them in the long term it is probably better as it's another player they've brought in, developed and not stood in their way of moving on which should help them attract other players. If they got awkward with him and other players like Burrell who they sold for good money it will put future players off.

 

Their forum reckons we offered 400k in Jan but they were desperate to keep him , some are suggesting about that again .
