I think the players knew the importance of this game. Andy Cook seemed really ecstatic with that pen he scored. think it was a weight off the teams shoulders.

I really enjoyed the performance on Saturday as well as the result.
Adams had made a number of adjustments to the setup as well as bringing in S'Ongo'o and Sutton.
The fact that Vernam was so allowed to operate freely from wide to inside in probably best described as a free role, enabled him to get closer and give support to Cook and he was subsequently more effective and Cook was less isolated. It also gave Rochdale a different problem to our normal set up and
limited their ability to get out easily. If we can find a way to get Vernam to finish better our offence looked much more positive especially at home.
By doing the change with Vernam it reduced the workload for Callum Cooke in the number 10 role and will allow him to continue to create without the pressure of having to finish and operate as high as he had been. I think he will need to adapt positionally but we will see how it goes. As with Vernam
his finishing has been woeful for such a good ball player and must improve.
Sutton was a revelation and quite outstanding for a first game back for a while. What an engine he has!

it looks like songo as CB is a bit of a mini revelation, glad he's found a change that helps the team going forward. Hopeful now of another 3 points against newport!

Amazed how surprised people were that Songo'o played well at CB on saturday evening, he was a CB his entire career until about 25 years old. He was signed as a CB at Plymouth, it was after 20 starts at CB first season that he moved him to DM after a few injuries in his midfield and never moved him back other than to cover, with him playing in defence 26 more times over his last 2.5 season at Plymouth, even started twice at CB for Morecambe in the league last season.

If Vernam could finish better, he wouldn't be at City. I'd hate for him to start scoring goals and lose him in the January window!

Be nice if Adams can find a way to make sure that Vernam remains as effective/dangerous as he has been (shooting aside) when Angol comes back.

I worry that Angol comes back and he's a 'shoe-in', Vernam has a less impactful role, loses his form, Angol picks up another knock, and we're back to square one.

    Bloody pessimism eh? :joy::joy:

This sounds like one of Baldrick's cunning plans.

Would like to see us 'pulling the trigger' when anywhere near the penalty box, instead of taking a couple of touches too many and getting crowded out though.

Don't worry. We've got a very ineffective wide man on the other side. Plenty of room for both and playing with 11 men again should help.

Even when Angol returns I'd like to think Adams can accommodate Vernam in the starting 11 very positive when he has the ball running at defenders/full back, and of course he can hit a ball.

Exactly. No-one will ever be able to recall a time that Bobby Campbell passed a ball.

If I had my money back on every game that was poor I would be retired by now.

From the kop it looked like a weak penalty. On Quest it looked like he battered the ball and would have broken the keepers wrists if he had got a hand to it.

Agree. Callum Cooke was guilty a couple of times when the ball was there to be hit
