Agree, we need to be smarter than the one trick pony principle. I can’t argue with the approach play which was excellent, I can’t argue with the decisive passing through the opposition back line, just not enough of it. After that we become a tad predictable to a team willing to play the sit back and defend relentlessly.
One defensive lapse, and one glaring headed miss cost us an easy win yesterday. I can’t see Adams being happy with either.

 

I get the latter bit but not sure what you mean about fitness test before the game, it’s not uncommon , in fact it’s a pretty regular occurrence.

Are you suggesting he wasn’t aware?

 

Has anyone watched the highlights? We did more than enough to win the game. How Crankshaw missed I don’t know. Cook had three good chances, particularly his first, and Vernam’s header miss was inexcusable. A poor week of results and with Salford losing again yesterday we have to go there looking for a win now.

Anyway, instead of bashing the team, what I wanted to say is…..Liam Ridehalgh. This lad will win player of the year. He’s a left footed Stephen Darby with his consistency. A definite upgrade on Wood. Had another strong game yesterday.

I think he had the right idea to bring Crankshaw on to give us more width down the right but negated it by losing the width on the left. Unfortunately I think we were too ponderous, too often the decision making was slow, physical play was slow. We needed to increase the tempo and maintain it but we didn't.

 

As others have said we should have got wise and attracted a few free kicks in and around that congested box..

 

Especially with the ref blowing for free kicks all game when there was barely a foul(apart from the red card obviously)

 

Not sure it was good defending, desperate defending for sure, but we failed to get three points because of our poor finishing, nothing else.

 

I thought they were well organised second half and stayed in the formation to frustrate us and it worked. Yes we missed some sitters but once they went 5-4-0 when that big lad came on and with the way we were playing I just couldn't see us scoring.

That's the point when you go down to 10 men that situation actually makes the decision for the opposing manager, it also helped that they had got back into the game making it 1 - 1 and didn't need to come forward and attack us. Adams made that comment, saying he preferred to play them with 11 v 11 as we made some great situations but once again could not finish.

 

I'll live with that mate, it won't be the first or the last time we have a difference of opinion.

 

3 points dropped yesterday for sure they were nothing special. Our goal was a fantastic strike and both Cook and Vernham should have scored along with a decent save from their keeper from Evans. Their goal was down to some very poor defending the cross should have been stopped and their player was totally free to finish.

The red was a definate red but it actually didn't help us they just defended for their lives and we should have scored. We we're too predictable in the second half we slowed the play down when we should have been making the extra man count. The Subs hurt us Crankshaw wasnt as good as he has been, lavery really offered nothing and we missed Evans and Vernham badly.

Yes you get 3 points for a win and I felt we should have taken all 3 but if you want to be pedantic I should have phrased it differently always one!
