Proper performance that tonight. For once we bullied a team and did the dark arts well which is something that we definitely needed to improve on.

Stubbs was outstanding against Hawkins and killed all of their attacking threat. Other than lumping it to that donkey they had no idea whatsoever.

We looked dangerous everytime we went forwards and had some good opportunities outside of the goals. Their defence was really poor and Ehmer should retire after what Cook did to him for the second goal.

A two goal lead was always going to be game over so was nice to get it early in the half which allowed us to comfortably see the game out.

Overall, thoroughly deserved win but we need to back it up on Saturday and for the rest of the season at VP.

Safe travels to my fellow Bantams up the M1. Good atmosphere in there tonight despite there only being 300 or so of us.

Gills manager Neil Harris said after the game that Andy Cook is by far the best striker in this league, do you still think he is sh*te?

 

Hawkins reminds me of Luke Oliver. A lump of a centre half who Cloughie switched from centre half to centre forward whilst at Mansfield

 

I just worry about who we'd leave out to accommodate that third centre half. Would be either the walker or Costello role more than likely which leaves not a lot going forward.

Can only really be used in a "defensive" shift in my opinion when we are a goal or two up

 

Walker is such an intelligent player. Like a marquee signing now he’s back from injury.

Is their defender still embarrassing himself by claiming to the ref the ball was out of play?

 

Did Hughes give any clues/updates as to why Walker was limping last night?

I was thinking we'd leave out one of Smallwood or Gilliead, ie play two deeper midfielders, Walker behind Cook and Costelloe and the fullbacks wide. No need for three defensive CMs against teams that come to park the bus.

Jamie Walker suffered a kick in the middle of his calf and was taken off as a precaution.

“It will be sore the next couple of days,” said Hughes. “It’s not a pull or anything but you have to be careful with those things.

“Sometimes you can get a little bit of blood in them and it just weakens the muscle a bit. So hopefully he’ll be okay.”
