Fc United of Manchester pre season friendly

Humphrys and GA have been pretty clear he will be playing through the centre. Yesterdays YP and game proof so far.

 

5 playera for 1 position aint happening imo.

 

We need quality over numbers. Probably won't happen, I agree. But it's going to be a problem.

Last season a lack of quality up front, very, very nearly cost us. Humphry looks a good player but I don't think he's ever played as a lone striker in his career?

I hope I'm wrong, but if we don't add a quality striker then I think we'll struggle.

 

Who is available within the player budget- players without a contract playing the field or with a transfer fee the club can afford.? It will be interesting to see the squad when the transfer window is closed. We will need to keep our fingers crossed that we will see some quality added

 

I'm not sure, but either we're able to be competitive at this level, or we're not. Let's see how it plays out - to me, we look weak in the defensive midfield and striker positions.

 

Apart from Smallwood (defensive central midfielder) and Cook (striker) being our most important players for the last 3/4 years?

 

Cook 100%, Smallwood was nowhere near until last season.

The problem of having to take Cooks goal contributions out os sadly getting much closer.

 

I think Smallwood bolstered a few poor XIs.

Defensive midfielders like that won't win you any games but they'll damn sure stop you getting spanked if you're a bit rubbish.

 

I hear Tilt was a bit of a nutter yesterday, could his aggression cost us with sending offs or giving free kicks in dangerous positions? Also did we lack creativity yesterday?

 

Why what happened . He can’t be much of a nutter if the one and only booking was for time wasting in the first half ?

Correct but weve gone from Kavanagh and Mellon to Kavanagh, Swan and Humphrys - with Cook due to return Sep/Oct. Thats a major upgrade on what was available in the last few months of 24/25.

As for Humphrys, I dont know much about his previous roles but GA thinks he has far more to offer and hasnt reached his potential. He certainly has the traits to be a lone striker - strength, pace etc. He just needs to add more goals to his game - may do that as a focal point.

 

I just heard from a family member who went, that he was really getting stuck in for a preseason friendly.

On a serious note isnt there an old saying that a weaker tackle is more likely to get you an injury than a full blown one?

 

I did notice in the last game of the season that Halliday got an awful lot of the ball but lacked any creativity or threat, as much as I do like him.

 

So Magloire was at Motherwell with GA. Must have liked him up there and obviously doing him a favour by giving him a trial.

 

Brad gets a nosebleed and shits himself at times when he has space. Noticed it a lot last season.
