Last summer at my bar, we had a very successful launch of Slosecco, which as the name suggests is Sloe gin topped up with Prosecco. Very dangerous on a sunny afternoon!

If you are in London and you want ‘affordable, Yorkshire beer’, then Sam Smith pubs fit the bill. They have some character/quirky pubs. The Cheshire Cheese is one for sure. Pity the ‘interesting’ owner now restricts their beer to one real ale choice! https://www.standard.co.uk/reveller/bars/the-15-best-sam-smith-s-pubs-in-london-ranked-a3954501.html

I used to go to another on that list, the Cittie of Yorke, as the food was decent and cheap. But then the kitchen went downhill, and the beer and interior weren't enough to keep me going there. Maybe it's changed for the better again, now, but I haven't been in there for a decade at least.

The other article that comes up on that page was interesting too: their list of the 50 best London pubs. I see that two of my favourites made it: Ye Olde Mitre and the Southampton Arms. An old colleague of mine, also a jazz pianist, who moved back to England after retirement could sometimes be found playing jazz standards at the SA.

Too bloody right it is. And the Boltmeker is even better. Interesting fact, it's called Boltmaker (Boltmeker) because Keighley is traditionally a heavy engineering town and was made to quench the thirst of the local boltmakers.
Chandos in Trafalgar Square. Great pub spoilt by serving that hideous Old Brewery Bitter that tastes like the inside of a brewing VAT at has never been washed in 100 years.

Two of the best pubs in London are Mabels nr Kings Cross and the pub opposite the Chard just on the edge of Borough Market (Bunch Of Grapes). Also found a really good retro pub just outside Greenwich, The Pelton Arms. Great traditional boozer with a bit of a music feel going on.

There are a few pubs which I tend to go in, connected with supporting City, when in London. The Queens Head, Acton Street has always been a good place to meet pre Wembley. It also has a piano!
The Market Porter is well placed for London Bridge station (Millwall & Charlton). The Falcon, near Clapham Junction was good for Wimbledon. If I am just in town, then the Harp not far from Trafalgar Square, is an excellent small pub with a good choice of beer. If you are looking for a quiet pint, say before getting the train to Leyton Orient, then the Lamb, on Lamb Conduit Street is a good choice. All the above serve decent beer.

Personally I don’t think you can go wrong with a lovely drop of Strongbow, particularly dark fruits.

All you beer snobs with your Bishop’s bollocks IPA are just pretending to like it. As for Gin, like drinking my Gran’s perfume.

Chandos bar was a popular pub for Rugby League fans from Keighley when we had our Wembley Weekend . Later moved on to The Allsop Arms Marlybone Greene King Pub not far from tube to Wembley.

Most of the real ale and craft beers in the supermarket? Same shit different can. I don't mind a pint every now and then, wether it be lager or beer. But this craft beer lark is massively overrated. Give me a pint at weatherspoons any day.

Theakston's would have been Theakston's from Masham then, not the stuff that got made up in Newcastle when bought out by Scottish & Newcastle.

That was a proper brewery trip back then...got a pint glass after the tour and free until the end of the tour about 2 hours later!! Cue about 6 / 7 pints of Old Peculier...just getting my moneys worth like....
