Fair enough, but I think the question Payne has to be asking himself is, can he play well in a successful team? Can the team be successful with him playing well?

You could suggest either is an obvious 'yes', but it hasn't happened yet.

I thought we had that last season, to be fair.

We may have somehow weakened the defence since then, but you can compensate slightly by being good going forward, which should not only bring goals but reduce time defending.

Clearly we don't have that either.

 

It is not a question of leaving him out he is a good player with the ability to go a long way in the game, But part of that is his willingness to change to be less greedy in possession and be more aware of his team mates efforts to both support him and to get in good positions to damage the opposition, He is young and has time to learn and with good coaching he will become less greedy and a better asset to the team, But for his own sake and ours he needs to learn quickly that he needs to play more for the team.

Tough game in prospect today. I’d stick Jim O’Brien on coppinger and make life difficult for him. He’s a great player in this league even at his age.

Marquis is a decent target man though. Worry about us defensively in the air against him.

Hopefully we can nick a goal and give us something to defend. It won’t be pretty I don’t think today.

After the game there are tweets from all the players, variations on a theme they’re told to tweet, about how they’re gutted, embarrassed for the fans, sorry, will try harder next week and how they’re gonna smash it in training before they go again.

Personally think we will get something at Donny, since hopkin arrived I believed this is the game that the tide will turn.(must be mad) Team selection if fit will be Same as last week and although hopkin likes the wing back formation 3-5-2 I have a feeling we may go 3-4-3 with scannell and ball playing either side of Doyle.
