Competitive Budget.

if you look at the players we've got under contract and use our previous league 2 promotion winning squad as a benchmark, I genuinely think we're 10 completely new, good quality outfield players away from competing. That's going to depend on whether we can shift most of the 16 players we have under contract and if Rupp is prepared to push the boat out again and fund a top 7 budget. unlikely I'd say. I think next season is going to be midtable mediocrity at best.

 

Didn't we try and force Edin out (earlier), but the plane was cancelled? I know a fly by isn't much, but the seeds of unrest were already sown enough to get fans putting their hands in their pockets.

Unfortunately it seems, Edin made so much mess, that it took a while to clean up what he left behind, and thus left us in a situation where signings in January were pretty much left to last minute panic purchases.

I'm still in the view that Rupp is also to blame, and should have been much more hands on, reigning in his partner who seemed hell bent on doing things his way.

Grayson I think, pretty much gave up once he realised what was really going on, and Hopkin went the same way also.
All this rubs off on the players, and the atmosphere as described by many, really was toxic.

Even Parky had better foundations set for our League 2 promotion season. McLaughlin, Davies, Ravenhill, Reid, Hanson, Wells, Atkinson were all there from the previous season.
As you say, even the handful of players who MIGHT be good enough and the right type, might not be sticking around. Its a massive rebuild.

 

We were never paying transfer fees. I was thinking of loans or free agents which would definitely have been possible.

Fordy it turned out we had and spent a competitive budget this season ( £3.2million?) but Edin was a control freak and wasted it on mainly dross.

 

In the big games for Aberdeen O'Connor played just infront of the two centerhalves.

 

Next season for City, I'd play O'Connor just behind the two dugouts.
