We did a lot of the little things right, movement off the ball, players using space, not dropping out of position. Actually shows what buying players who have stood out in positions and buying them to play that exact position. I've banged on here for too long about how football is position specific, it's why Halliday looks composed at right back. Because he is a right back. Smallwood is a defensive central midfielder, not an attacking midfielder shoehorned in because we couldn't be arsed buying a defensive one. Why it's taken us so long as a club to realise this basic fact I don't know but first time for a long time I feel enthusiastic about a team and it's management set up.

TBF ROD would have been no where near that ball-like Lewis a lot.

Agree. Halliday the proper right back in "playing well at right back shocker"!

Smallwood and East both pass quicker/sharper and more often forwards than Watt did. There's a good buzz in the middle of the pitch now.

Very assured and got some great tackles in-don't recall him getting beaten but could be wrong.

He's competent. He'll improve with games. He links well in attack and was in the penalty area a couple of times. Panics a bit with the ball and when under pressure at times. Perhaps not a fair comparison but Halliday showed him the level he needs to be as a full back.

Lovely recovery on the Sunderland sub, after losing the ball in his own half.

Apart from getting Angol as the goalscorer wrong, thought that was largely fair.

Didn't listen to all of it, but he seemed to be accurate.

    Angol had a poor game.

Not getting into that, we all know Lewis is new and shiny and exciting, and ROD was old and shopworn in most fans eyes.

I think that's a tad harsh-he did a shimmy (lol) and threw their player a right dummy in the second half and then hit a nice pass down the line.

No, Lewis seems a competent box commanding keeper-that's what I am seeing anyway.

Sod that, I’m excited. I’ve seen us in all four pre season matches and I can’t remember being this excited since 1999.
Make hay whilst the sunshines and all that.
We could pick two promotion winning defences and front threes.
Proper team - up as champions

Halliday, Crichlow, Platt and Foulds were a strong defensive line, often playing it out very neatly. Sunderland were easily contained in the first half, when they were on the pitch.

I'm cautiously optimistic, but we need to see how we fare in a few L2 games before making statements about having that level of depth in quality. Let's hope it all comes off!

I agree from what I've seen, apart from today, when he should have been sent off for commanding his box incompetently

Ironically you're bashing ROD for probably not making a decision he shouldn't have made...

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn’t Foulds get the assist for Osadebe’s goal?

For a central defender, Crichlow certainly has an eye for a pass.
