Well, I’m over next week, might need to dig the thermals out for Ice Station Boundary.

Ive been twice, both in February I think and never understood the cold thing at Boundary! And im a summer baby that hates the cold! Ive left games early because of it - coupled with a dysmal game mind. Does anyone remember Southend in. Tuesday night at VP. Think we lost 0-1.

10th January 1987 at Boundary Park. The coldest I've ever been at a football match. Exposed terrace, nothing to retain heat. Before North Face came into fashion.

If I ever need to try and understand what being sent to Siberia really meant, that day was a small window into that. It was brutal.

Spot on. That was the old Rochdale Road end. It was uncovered and was facing due west, so the prevailing wind, rain and indeed snow use to blow in from the Irish Sea. Boundary Park is over 500 foot up (only the Hawthorns is a higher league stadium, VP is 380 and is relatively sheltered in the Valley!). Given that the wind/rain whistles over the Lancashire plain, Oldham being on the edge of the Pennines, is the first real obstacle for the inclement weather! The home supporters were located in the Chadderton end, which was sheltered and had a roof.
The current stadium is now all covered. They switched the ends and the away fans are now housed in the Chadderton road end, which is an old stand with supporting pillars which can limit the view. The Oldham support are in the new stand, which is apparently still freezing**so funny but offers some protection from the rain.

Me and my lad will be going especially as we can't do Boro at home due to work commitments. Would imagine we will see the first 11 that will likely play against Wycombe start the game.

Ah but people in Queensbury (can) have nice warm houses. Not standing/sitting on a bare mountain open to the elements when a gale is blowing and the rain lashing down.;)

My closest game living in Mossley/OL5 (no longer Ashton as the username suggests!).

But me and the Mrs are at the Derren Brown show in Leeds that day, so can't make it...
