They aren’t , because if we win 15-0 the opposite end of the spectrum would poo poo them as being a meaningless indicator . Works both ways Steve.

 

Exactly and that’s what a few said when we put 6 or 7 past Bury last year.

 

The T&A blog at the final whistle said that City players were a yard off the pace, why?, were they lazy or are they truly less fitter than a 6th tier side who are probably part time?

 

If friendlies don’t matter and not to be taken seriously then why bother with them?
Why charge an entrance fee if it’s just a fitness exercise? Should be free.
Looking at other results today, Hudders have beaten Guiseley 7-0. Let’s see how we fair next weekend.

Meaningless or not, I know which scoreline I’d rather have

 

Exactly , other teams take friendlies seriously and make good use of them. We don’t and it ultimately means we start the season poorly.
We can’t afford to get off to a poor start as it will create disgruntlement amongst the fanbase.

 

As long as GA makes it abundantly clear that friendly or not, we at least need to reward those who turn up with a bit of entertainment going forward, this result won't matter.

More of the same though as we trudge through preseason and I'm afraid it will start to matter.

Today should have been target practice.

 

Psychologically it can’t be any good.

I know lots of footballers don’t have much between the ears but I presume they will have come off the field feeling flat.

In the big scheme of things it may not matter but it’s not a great start to pre season.

 

Im not fussed about the result today, I don't think pre season results matter. That being said this club doesn't help itself when trying to win over fans and regardless of the team we put out we have to be scoring at least 4 or 5 against Chorley.

 

Correct, after the crap we endured last season this result isnt the best way to get fans feeling optimistic.
I said in a previous post that a real indication will be the Altrincham game the week before start of season.

 

So you accept they are meaningless which was my point. I wasn’t commenting about the score, which of course I’d have preferred a 15-0 win Steve.

We will do if we draw them in the FA Cup, all about fitness as @Fordy117 repeats season on season with regards pre season friendlies.

 

I’m sorry but I don’t buy into the whole fitness myth. Modern day pro footballers should not allow themselves to become unfit during the closed season.
