Why would you hope to not rob another club? £250-500K isn't a ridiculously low amount for a League 2 side.

I'm just trying to work out why no one offered more money for him. Everyone is banging on about £250,000 being a bargain but i don't see anyone else offering more. £250,000 was probably a fair price for a league 2 striker, we didn't get a bargain, we paid the going rate.

Ive noticed how you've conveniently added on another 250k to your original price tag. 500k? maybe. 250? Very unrealistic. History tells you that in demand, under contract strikers who have genuine ability go for more than that. A lot more than that.

If there was another interested party. I'm still not sure on what this 'release clause' actually means. Does it mean nobody else can pay more? Some seem to think it was a bargain, i don't. It seems we were the only ones genuinely interested at that price or another team would have bid higher.

Just sticking a curve ball in, here ...........
Perhaps it was a Wells type situation - And Wyke only wanted City. In which case 'Melchester Rovers' could bid £1m, yet would matter not if City triggered the clause, and CW had made up his mind ?

So Wykes contract with Carlisle stipulated a figure of £250,000. I take it this is the lowest fee that has to be offered to enable the buying club to be able to enter negotiations. I get that bit. But i get the impression some fans think we got him on the cheap, i disagree. To me it seems we got him for that price because no one else offered more. Therefore £250,000 was his market value. Surely if he was that sought after a club would have come in over the top and offered more?

Agree it doesn’t mean nobody could pay more but I would expect any clubs interested would hope they could attract him with increased wages rather than paying higher transfer fee. Personally I think we did get a good deal on Wyke. I think he would show his worth behind a good quality no.9, but we will never know as won’t get one! Compared to Hanson at the same money he looks a steal.

I don't know the ins and outs Ron, i just get the impression we were the only ones willing to pay a quarter of a million for Wyke's 'potential'.

Yes your right, I was being very unrealistic in my guess at how much a lower league club would accept for a striker.

IMO I think CW is an OK no 9 - It's an OK no 10 we need. ;)

There are not many league one clubs that can afford 250k.and championship clubs probably thought he wasn’t ready

Depends what you think Ronnie. I reckon Wykes strengths are behind the main striker as he’s got good link up play. I don’t see him as an out and out goal scorer as he doesn’t have the pace for me.

I agree, Bradford paid a decent sized fee for a player unproven at league 1 level. Just because the release clause was £250,000 doesn't mean it was cheap. I bet Bradford offered less than that to start with.

Sought after...???. There were no bids in the time he was at Posh after they signed him from Dulwhich Hamlet.. He turned down Posh’s offer of a renewed contract at the end of his 2 seasons there.. Don’t mix up then and now. If he was “sought after” why didn’t anyone in the higher division bid for him whilst he was on the “list” during his last season at Posh.
