The broadcasters are not alone in resisting it but they have seen how technology allows matches to be streamed illegally in their entirety. There are millions around the world who would rather pay criminal gangs to steal the broadcasts for them in return for a small fee rather than pay for a legal stream. It's not in the interests of legitimate broadcasters to broadcast further when the criminals are the ones reaping the rewards financially whilst the Sky's of the world would be expected to recompense clubs for reduced attendances if that were the case.

As I said earlier, change will only come about if the evidence can be provided to demonstrate that the football industry in its entirety would be better off if more games were televised. I can't speak for others but I'm not aware that such evidence exists. There are simply too many vested interests to change the current arrangements without a proper understanding of the implications. It won't happen based on a wing and a prayer. That's irrespective of what fans might want.

 

I have no idea whether televising 3pm kick-offs has any impact or not on attendances. The fact that attendances are simply increasing over time neither supports nor undermines that unless some kind of causal link can be established. It's a very simplistic view compsred to the complexity of the decision making by some competing interests.

What is more relevant is whether televising 3pm games produces more financial and economic benefits to the football sector or not. If it's true then at thst point the extra spoils can be shared so nobody loses out. Only when there is evidence to support that will those who make the broadcasting decisions sit up and take notice. In the mean time, I expect things will continue as they are whatever we fans might prefer.
