I was very impressed with Yesterday’s performance and hopefully Mark Hughes will get us promoted . A really good day out and a lady driving the Dolly bus “ Cmon Eileen “.

It was a good run out for all the team yesterday. The results don’t matter but the competitive way we went about it does matter. We defended well against a side who are several leagues below us.
A number of city players looked unfit and you wouldn’t expect any different given we are only a week into pre season. We have friendlies and pre season training to get fit.

Fans get a glimpse of the players who have just been signed and how the team will play to a certain extent but unfit players will not be able to play as they want to, so it is only a glimpse. However some players were further on in their fitness and that is just the way it is. Pattison looked good and fit.
I imagine that the Spain trip will increase fitness and start to form as a squad and team. Team morale already looks good.

 

When you say "they mean nothing", can you explain what you mean by this?

 

I’m not wrong about the kit launches. It’s too late and Sparks will know that. Look things can improve you know. Bradford City is far from a perfect club.

As for pre season it’s a mugs game for the fans. A waste of money. It’s about fitness and tactics that’s it! You say you know fans understand it’s not about the results but that’s not true is it. Some fans think it’s a real game that counts.

Anyway, let’s hope if we win all our pre season games you won’t think we will walk the league like you did last season and made yourself look foolish.

 

Nobody is naive enough to think pre season friendly results count for anything but what that do is give fans an insight as to how the team will setup and how the new players will or won’t improve the squad.
In recent seasons I’ve been so underwhelmed by what I’ve seen in pre season games and so it was proven that 9 months later we’d achieved nothing.
What I saw yesterday was what seemed to be a squad of players who know they’ll need to fight for their place , maintain standards and get the job done this coming season.
Yes it was lower league opposition and I’ll judge again after the Hull / Middlesbrough games.

edit. I remember coming away from Chesterfield last season after a 3-0 defeat thinking there wasn’t enough goal threat accross the whole squad and that proved to be the case.

 

How did Kelly get on yesterday , I haven't had a chance to watch the game.

Gillead is one of those players who appears to do very little yet keeps getting picked in the starting 11 week in week out so must be doing something that the manager likes.

Will be interesting to see where he fits in the starting 11 this season as Pattison really caught the eye yesterday.

 

If pre season is so inconsequential to, you why are you constantly posting on a thread about a pre season game?

You say it every year - even when its a early/mid June launch.

You say pre season means nothing (then change to results to fit narrative - but we all know you love to jump on a loss)

Then you will go on about shite signings, train at a school, Cook isnt good enough blah blah blah.

Remember Stuart? Watched him grow up and mature and he was a very similar type of player from my observations yesterday. Pattison looks far stronger though.
