I thought he was terrible! Strange how different we've seen the game.

I liked that he tried to let the game flow but for me he got a big percentage of the calls wrong.

Chapman nearly snapping their lad in half and the ref playing on then Cook getting a foul for completely missing the ball and falling over spring to mind.

Hopefully most refs follow his mindset of trying to keep the game moving though, it makes for such a better spectacle.

Salford look like a side with great individuals but don't play as a team. I get why they are not firmly in the Top 3.

They lost that game when they were arguing amongst themselves, including Watt showing his usual negativity, during the last 20 minutes of the first half. It gave us the confidence to attack and we ended up creating our best batch of chances since the Stevenage win.

And a Happy New Year to you!!

If you ask people in the Manchester area to name local football teams, they will obviously say United and City. If you are in the north of the area they could also mention Oldham and Rochdale, in the south then Stockport, if you are in the west Bolton and Bury. No one mentions Salford. You are as likely to get FC United/Radcliffe Borough/Altrincham/Ashton as response.

I have been told that it is the same with the attendance at Harrogate, if the Beasts of Beeston are playing, their numbers apparently are down.

I also thought he was terrible, and completely inconsistent. For the first 20 minutes, he awarded a free kick for every single incident without exception, then a switch seemed to get flicked in his head and suddenly he was letting things go.

How are the players supposedly know what's going on with a referee like that?

4 out of 10 at best for me, possibly lower considering consistency is such an important part of the game ...

I agree. His stats on WhoScored suggest he is no more card happy than other lower league refs handing out similar numbers of yellows and reds However, he is incredibly whistle happy. On average, his 'fouls per tackle' is 0.71 which means for every 10 tackles during the game, he blows his whistle for a foul in 7 of them! That sounds a lot to me.

And yesterday, I thought he was so inconsistent for both teams that the players must have been completely confused by some of his decisions. Late on, there were 'fouls' on Cook and by Cook which went unchallenged. And then there was a scything tackle on a Salford player by Chapman which on another day could have been a red card. It's the inconsistent decision making which causes so much frustration for players and fans alike.

They are human.Same as you and me.
Your yellow and my yellow could be completely different.
Like you say. What irks fans is when they change their approach mid match.
    Good refs and shit refs.

sad thing for me HE was one of the better ones which shows how bad the standard is at this level and tbh that’s comes from the top .......... you look how week after week they continue to get it wrong in the Premier league with the help of VAR so no wonder it’s shockingly bad when it comes to our level ..........

That how you do zonal marking. The big players like Platt, Oliver mark the zones on the edge of the 6 yard box then the smaller players like Sutton man mark with the aim of blocking off the attacker to stop them getting a run on the defenders

Walker did look like he is far from being fully fit and lacking energy but that being said his enthusiasm and quality shone through.

I thought Platt did well, but Smith was still a handful. He put that chance for Bailey on a plate at the end.

I think the proposal was a ground swap with Salford Reds, but i believe the ground is owned by Salford City Council and both the Reds & The Sharks are tenants.

    He gave 30 free kicks.

Like @Dennis@Dennis said, that's extraordinarily high.

A free kick every 3 minutes, and we all know the ball isn't in play for 90 minutes anyway.
