To be honest I wasn't counting but if you say around 27 of those diagonal balls missed their target I will take your word for it.
And on those figures I must have told you a million times not to exaggerate.

 

Posted similar myself, anyone who attended yesterdays game and cant see that maybe need to watch another sport, there's one thing playing balls up to Cook but as you say several times he was double marked by Salford two CD, that video clip shows if the correct ball is played to Cook he chests it down and lays the ball off for a cross that Sarcevic should have done better keeping his shot down.

 

Thought we were shite. Boring!

know it’s early in the season but we should be beating Salford at home if we are wanting automatic promotion.

We could still be playing now and we wouldn’t have scored.

I agree with a lot of that but the 1-0 defeats I am a bit more hopeful about this time round because although I'm not overwhelmed by our defensive signings I think this lot will defend better as a team. Time will tell.

 

Probably the least I have enjoyed an opening home fixture. Mainly from losing my seat I have held for more than twenty years and worrying about where we might get a seat anywhere near as good. The football was almost secondary. But the first half lacked the front foot pressing that I hoped was going to be our trademark this year. Much better second half when Pointon came on which forced them to turn to the dark arts to survive. I still think we have the players for a successful season and should be on maximum points if the Lino had been as aware of the ball going over the line as he was for catching us offside all afternoon

 

Even you can see that from the pictures doing the rounds we scored a perfectly good goal.

 

Fourteen players have left Salford since the end of last season and eleven new players have come in with more to follow, so it's a new team still bedding in, all of them will be putting down a marker which is probably why they worked so hard.

 

Sarcevic was off balance trying to reach that but it was one of only a few headers that found a man. There was much sign of a partnership between Cook and Kavanagh

 

Not ready to bag the kid yet, I think he's shown he has a bit about him. But the manager must be able to see that in the three games so far he's shown little to warrant been in the side. Same with Pattison and Sarcevic, both decent enough players at this level but but both looked anonymous yesterday and for me they are too similar. Personally I think both Pointon and Oduor have claims to a start now and Walker really needs to be getting first team action. How you fit them in to make the team better is open to debate but I really don't want to see another 45 minutes like the first half yesterday as it was pure tedium.

 

You always think we are shite Fordy and we did score yesterday, it just wasn't given.

It wasn't a header that found a man it was a chest down that Cook played back for (was it Baldwin) to cross and a poor defensive hearer out for Sarcevic to shot over the bar, not sure what your second comment means, IMO Kavanagh can't play the position he's being asked to play, Cook gestured a couple of times where was Kavanagh from the flick on, if we practise it in training why doesn't Kavanagh take up the positions he does in training.

 

That central midfield 3 of Pattison, Smallwood and Sarcevic hasn't clicked.

That's a real shame as I felt Smallwood was being over-used last season when he was pretty much the only CM we had. Walker playing alongside him in a 2 didn't really work, either, as Walker was attacking most of the time.

I figured we'd have a lot more time and space in the centre, Smallwood winning the ball, Sarc picking passes and Pattison making runs, but not yet. I think Smallwood is still not recycling the ball to his CM partners enough and looking for easier passes to the CB's - who, aside from Baldwin, are poor on the ball.

Baldwin also preferred to pass down the right flank to Halliday who rarely attacked.

 

Like most players there is criticism that can be levelled at Cook but he keeps putting the ball away at regular intervals whilst he is doing that he can’t be replaced

 

Baldwin was playing to Cooks feet some of the time which was good to see

 

A shame you don't reply to my post with more substance, maybe you can't as most have pointed out as well as myself your wrong, you won't take the bet as you admit Cook will once again be our leading goal scorer "I don’t disagree that he won’t be top scorer" yet you continually knock the guy even after agreeing , maybe your comments should be aimed at Alexander and his lack of cover for Cook "We have no other attacking threat" if you believe he's our only threat?.

 

Do you think the back 3 distributed the ball well? I'm just wondering if there's a different point to your post or if you actually agree with me?

That shot should have been one of five or six strong chances on target in a front-footed first home match. Alas, there were few chances so we're left with "if it had been allowed" just like "of Smallwood had scored his penalty". We need to create more chances. Our xg for the whole match was 0.93 including Cook's effort which shows the quality of chances we created was low
