He apparently won most heading duels than any one else in league one last year

I think his comment is in response to Hughes post match interview saying we did not mess the Barrow defenders up enough, and basically singled Cook out or that's the way I interpreted it.

It's the after match dispirited walk to the car that is worst. Does any other team disappoint its supporters so much? This cannot be good for my mental health. Set off with such high hopes.

Are we fated to be like this forever?

I am sure Mark Hughes is a fine fellow. Been around for ever. But here he seems to have been given everything he wants. Must be going on 30 new players in last 9 months. Yet we take the field again with none of these being suitable to play on wing or partner Cook.

Sadly I have no solution. Maybe come by bus.

Me neither. Not sure what the stats on it are but I have this impression that we never win when we get turned around. Obviously it's not true, but it bloody well feels like it.

Yeah I heard that but I'm looking with my own eyes and imo he doesn't win even half of the challenges he should do. For me he should be bullying centre halves like Wooton at Stockport or even our very own James Hanson back in the day.

Now I see why we gave him a 3 year contract
I thought centre forwards were supposed to score goals
Hope I am wrong but he could prove to be a costly mistake

Now that would be nice ! I also reckon Mansfield & Stockport will grab 2nd & 3rd

How can we mess with the opposition defence when we are permanently playing the ball sideways/backwards in our own half
He did himself no favours whatsoever in that interview

Football at this level is a simple game, and Hughes is failing at it. It's not working, just go direct with costello & banks on the wings, Oliver & Cook upfront and Vlayton & East in the middle. So what is we lose games 4/3 it's better than watching non drying paint dry

It's the hope that kills you! Yesterday was set up for us to make a real statement and push on for that 3rd spot but the script was written with their horrendous run coming into the game.
I never feel confident of 3 points at home because the way we set up is so easy to play against when a team turns up to park the bus. We had to score 1st yesterday and once their goal went in you could see what was going to happen. This set up simply does not work at home but we have no Plan B.
I can genuinely see us winning next week which again will raise hopes again but unless we find a different way of plaing at VP we are going to fall short

Look at the Borrow forward. Running downing and pressing. Cook did nothing. He didn’t help the midfield or himself.

Seriously, he is so so bad as a footballer. Credit for his goals but over all play is one of the worst I have seen in a forward for years. It’s no shock every team wants rid of him.

Needs to vastly improve off the ball and his work rate.

The problem is that there was no movement at all up top yesterday. Cook is not and never will be a mobile front man but if he makes the team due to his goal threat then we need mobilty around him. Losing Derbyshire was a big blow as Eisa was like a rabbit in headlghts until he went off

The evidence confirms what we all know, City at home are a mediocre and inconsistent team. Prone to being beaten by teams who are on a poor run.
The Home table puts City at 12th, mid table. We really cannot afford anymore dropped home points never mind losing all 3.
I agree it is the ‘hope’ that kills you. Canavan for all his aerial strength, is slow and has the turning circle of a super tanker. We totally failed to exploit that.
Sometimes you have to have alternative options, the ‘crab’ style of play is slow, ponderous, boring and verging on ‘anti-football’. It lacks thrills. Zero shots on target is a dreadful stat.

Spot on. Clayton was looking for a pass forward. I will not criticise him for that. You are right fans have to accept the risk of passing it forward where the chances of getting it to a city player are less than passing it backwards. My criticism is we need more strings to our bow than the passing game.

Very true! The amount of fans arguing amongst themselves from the concourse and throughout their onward journeys was a joy to behold, including me with my son :joy:

I simply don’t care who was up top yesterday it would have made a difference we simply do not create enough going forward ..........., you bang Cook in a team that actually creates chances he would be up at the 25+ goal mark by now and tbh he should be praised for getting the goals he has got in a side that frankly creates little

It makes me laugh when people describe Barrow and other teams who score first against us and then try and hold on to a lead as “anti football”
We played for 90 minutes at home, had 77% possession against a team who had won 2 in 14 and have conceded 5 goals twice in the last 2 months and yet we couldn’t muster a shot on target or trouble their back 4 in any way.
We all watched one of the most turgid games of football any of us has seen for a while(and we’ve watched some shite recently) and we have the gall to label the other team as “anti football”

If not producing any worthwhile attacking threat at home for a full 90 minutes against a poor side is “pro football” then something is really wrong.

Its not nearly as cringy as 'they raised their game for their cup final'. It's embarrassing and delusional. It's the type of remark that makes me glad other fans don't look at this forum. Making out like we are Barcelona or something. Based on our home form for a long time now, opposition managers probably have a harder task getting their teams motivated to not under estimate us rather than 'raising their game'.

For that to happen we urgently need to change the CM then.
