Absolutely , however as 99% observed it was clear he was off form Dave, even defensively . As you rightly say the formation and personal didn’t help whatsoever . He had no outlet on the right going forward, with both Sarcevic and Patto , normally considered his potential outlets both missing , which meant his forays driving forward were extremely restricted and more importantly ineffective, leaving him/ us vulnerable to the opponent’ s wing back .

Some have suggested he could still play RWB with Neufville in front of him ……If Sarcevic plays then that can’t happen in my book. Unless of course GA has a plan up his sleeve?

We certainly haven’t agreed a three year deal for JN on likely very good money for him to be a squad player . So we can rightly ask ourselves where does that leave Brad who has what, a year left? Quite a conundrum .. One outstanding benefit is of course they provide excellent competition for the position which can only be a good thing.

3-5-1-1 or 5-3-2 with Hump and Kav roaming across the front?

The same formation as last year I'd think with the striker and two AMs being pretty fluid.

When Swan signed I am sure GA used the term fluidity. He can play anywhere across the front 3.

Very similar to Jacobs, he was written off at the start of each season but started on a regular basis, even 24 and 21 starts in in the Premier League.

Kav was part of the team that earned promotion and as Cook is injured all the competition are new joiners for his place. Unless someone else does really well in pre-season, I reckon he starts the first game and from there it's a case of him doing enough to keep his place like last season.

Yes agree he probably will start as well as Humphrys but not instead of . There may be a strong case if he proves himself in L1 whereas Hump and to a lesser extent Swan has already done so. A step up and strong team competition for places will challenge him for sure.

I think Swan will start ahead of Kavanagh with Humphrys on the left and Sarcevic on the right.

Good dilemma to have that. Kav as an impact sub perhaps?

I would guess GA has his first 11 in his mind already unless someone gets injured in training.

    Walker
    Halliday
    Touray
    Pennington
    Wright
    Tilt
    Power
    Pattison
    Pointon
    Sarcevic
    Humphrys

Hilton, Neufville, Richards, Leigh, Lapslie, Kavanagh, Swan

Baldwin (susp), Kelly (inj), Byrne, Oduor, Wright in the stands.

Thats my 18....Halliday, Richards or Touray can fill in at CB if required during match. No CB on bench for me.

That doesn't look far off to me.

Can also see Kavanagh starting (doubt Swan starts) with Pointon possibly dropping to the bench and Humphrys playing behind him. Definitely think Byrne will be on the bench. Neufville might start ahead of Halliday, but I'd personally rather stick with Halliday for now.

Not feeling too great about that back 3, if I'm honest, and the lack of a Smallwood-type feels like losing a bit of a security blanket ahead of a ROUGH August.

If we're playing lads like Kone (Wycombe) and Wells (Luton) in back-to-back home games, we could be in for a rude awakening. Hopefully we can gut it out and continue making VP an absolute fortress.

Neil Byrne will start the first game. GA seems to really like him. Whether we agree with him or not.

He was captain on Friday (know that means nothing really, but does show that GA trusts him to an extent)

    Barring injury, these 8 will start ;

    Walker
    Touray
    J Wright
    Tilt
    Power
    Pattison
    Humphrys
    Sarcevic

The other 3 are potentially up for grabs but I think the other 3 might be Neufville, Kavanagh and probably Pennington.
