Lots to learn there about keeping control of the game when on top but an excellent three points.

Thought Tommy Leigh had a good game - he can certainly pick out a pass. His shirt to lose now in that CM position.

 

Got in a slump second half, they showed some quality but that’s to be expected. That said we should really have gone 3-1 up, despite the great save don’t give him a chance. Still great 3 points to start us off.

 

Humphrys and Neufville were outstanding. Thought most of the players put in a shift tbh, the only letdown was Joe Wright who I thought looked shaky at the back.

 

His hold up play surprised me for a winger. Well above what we’ve been used to for 6 years.

 

Second half was a tough watch.

Early days but all new signings look like the City type of players we like to see at our club. Neufville looks a proper player and I really enjoyed Humphrey’s performance who especially in the first half looked to offer something different than we’ve seen for a long time.

Give Tommy Leigh credit, best game he’s had for city by a mile.

Looking forward it will be interesting to see how Metcalfe and/or Pattison get on alongside Power. At times we looked exposed in the middle today however liked the look of the back 3 and how they managed the defensive part of the game.

 

Interesting game. Completely nullified them first half and they looked like a team more bothered about playing pretty football than doing anything effective.

First half of the second half they played with much more intent/we dropped off and made life harder for ourselves, but they finished in the top 6 last season. To be expected at some point.

And that being said, we still carved out a few good chances in the second half; two for Humphrys and the cross that just evaded Sarcevic six yards out.

Excellent three points, sets up a trip to (an in theory) lesser team well next week.

 

It's going to be exciting to watch Humphrys and Cook play together.

They could be a cracking partnership.

 

Wycombe are a good League One side and you saw with their movement at times they had quality. We were superb though.

All of the new lads slotted in great. wright in particular looked a rock at the back and Neufville and humphrys both impressed going forward.

the concourses were packed, Stefan was there with his cap on apparently, and the chants at the end singing GAs name - class.

I know you get some dodgy results in August but that was a better start than any of us could have expected. keeper made two worldies - could easily have been 4-1 .

it feels like we have our club back and something positive is happening around the place again!

Nobody looked out of place today, but we did have some stand out performances particularly from Neufville and I agree Humphrys.

Back 3 did reasonably well, preferred Pennington out of the 3 of them I think, wasn't sure about the lack of subs late on as some of the lads looked knackered (Sarc in particular) - but we did make some pointless changes last season that seemed to weaken us late on in games, so maybe it's not a bad thing.

Very good win, better than expected, really delighted for Bobby to get the winner today, well done lad!

 

Make no bones about it , he was outstanding for 90.
Get bums off seats , draws bookings and does the unexpected ( first goal was his making, outrageous back heel) . What a signing and adds value to the team ( and the club if he carries on like that) .

 

I had zero new season buzz before kick off, then I got to my seat and had a flag to wave so I was happy as a pig in shit!

We'll have easier to watch wins this season but it's an early win on the board. Neufville and Humphrys looked brilliant. Needed someone in midfield in the second half to try get a grip a bit better, but we were so passive. Not sure on Tilt, 2 or 3 times he was a bit cautious and stood his ground waiting for the ball and it was nearly nicked or nicked away once or twice. Leigh was better than I thought, bit sloppy in the second half but better than expected. Think once they gel a bit more we'll be a very sturdy L1 side this season.

 

Oddly , would he have played bar injuries ?
