Yes we were in the Bradford End, the end Southampton scored what should have been deemed an illegal free kick just as the one Coventry scored against Everton back in 1970 which was eventually banned by FIFA.

I believe some of the players gestured to the officials about it not rolling the full circumference before the second touch,
    Peter Downsborough was not happy.
FIFA’s decision revolved around the fact that the ball was not considered to have moved its full circumference before the second touch, you can clearly see from the above video Osgood lifted the ball in the air at no time did it roll the full circumference of the ball, this was actually banned at the end of the1970 season so the referee got that so badly wrong.

I played at VP the week after the loss to Southampton - schools cup final for Rhodesway - we beat Hanson 5-2
The pitch was like Blackpool beach I vividly recall !

My 2nd season as an 8 year old. Little did I know at the time that it would be almost another 40 years before I would see us in another FA Cup quarter final!!

I used to love 14-16’s school football with Belle Vue . We got to semis in that period at Parry Lane , but never made VP . Broke my heart ! We used to batter Rhodesway in my time ;). St Bedes always seemed to be our nemesis . :sob:

Ah yes Parry Lane. Played there a few times - as a junior it seemed a very big pitch - and quite a novalty to play on a flat pitch - but of course there was no grass on it come winter

50 years ago yesterday, blimey. I was nine and stood on the Bratfud End at the paddock side. My first season attending games mostly due to my family moving next door to the ground (78 Lupton Street) I remember walking out of the ground with my eyes welling up and bottom lip wobbling , mum asked “how did it go love”(fancy not knowing!) I ignored her for fear of blubbing and stomped upstairs and was immediately cheered up watching some saints fans getting chased and assaulted on my street from my bedroom window!! haha great memories. Hated Southampton for some time after that but that faded with time, in fact one of my old Navy pals is a Saints fan and I used to remind him often that they cheated their way to Wembley!!

I missed our 96 play off Wembley win due to unfortunately been trapped in the sun drenched Caribbean whilst on the Fearless

St Bede’s - my Dad was there late 50s / early 60s; i’d need to dig through paperwork to see if he taught there eventually as well!

Had to smile reading your comment about Hanson the "Posh lot" as we called them, I went to Lapage all boys, those who stopped for dinner had to walk all the way down to Hanson from Lapage Street as we didnt have a canteen, during the winter if there was snow on the ground they took great delight in ambushing us with snow balls, Lapage had a bit of a reputation as many of our lads were from Bradford Moor Estate or Spooner House a home for naughty boys, needless to say they threw their pre made supply of snow balls then run for cover.which I can't blame them we had some hungry tasty lads back in the day .

A little OTT in my opinion, I notice he never mentioned their illegal goal incedent, which did'nt help the situation, of course there were incidents back in the day being on the Kop it's not surprising for some fans it was open season for attacking the opposition fans.
In my time of supporting City I rarley stood on the Kop as a kid going with our dad it was the Midland Road then as many of the younger end did migrated to the Bradford End then the Paddock, now with the cronies in the Upper Sunwin.
Being in the Bradford End for the Spurs game they had the balls to try and take our end, not for the faint hearted.

The whole of Bradford schools had a very strong footballing community in those days as you know . That’s all I did from being about 10 , lived and breathed City and football . If fact I can’t lie , it’s the only reason I went to school ;) I didn’t do so bad though , just hated Academia ! We digress.

Unless by 1996 you were already an old timer then I think the word I am looking for is ... Nozzer :)

Actually, I never really give much thought about my time in the Navy, but stuff like the Southampton game makes me think ... where was I?

On the drafts front, Ganges, Mercury, Diomede, Ark Royal, Gib Comcen, Whitehall, Ashanti/Tartar, Fort Southwick and finally Nelson for release in 1980.
