Anyone who ever believed that ridiculous bullshit needs their heads tested. The idea that a Tory government would pour money into the north at the expense of their core southern shire voters is for the birds. I’m utterly amazed that anyone fell for it.

Shocking isn't it? Blame the French. I used to point out to my Southern friends, that York and the North was the making of this country, and we never let anybody invade that *unless you're talking about the Vikings, but then that becomed hazy due to the fact that us Northerners are related...and in actual fact the Frogs only got in due to our King Harold *also a Viking, deterring Vikings (yes its complicated) from invading Up North (in Stamford Bridge..yes I said it was complicated), and coming back to that there Down South, half arsed and completely knackered. And there you go, history 1066 and all that. Londoners need to understand that the only reason its important, is because of its geographical location to France. The reason they all sound similar too. During the industrial revolution, the North was pulling in far more money than the South. Running the country. But of course, London (French) arrogance would never admit that. OP: have I gone off topic? Sorry.

FOOTNOTE! Ironic that I've had a few lovely glasses of Chablis which have fuelled me to write this post. Sorry for any typos and grammar errors.

Because that is the logical thing to do. There is absolutely no point investing huge sums of money in a place like Bradford, it's role now ultimately a dumping ground for low cost workers from Eastern Europe or Africa. You simply will not get a return on any investment in Bradford. I've mentioned this before, an architect at College 30 odd years ago said exactly where Bradford and Leeds would be 30 years later, that Leeds would go on to be the rapidly expanding city due to its infrastructure. He said back then it would be madness to throw money at a place that wouldn't be built these days.

The last few times I've been into town I've noticed that Scumbag Square (between bottom of Sunbridge Rd and bottom of Ivegate) has been relatively clear of erm ...erm ...well.....Scumbags.

I caught a bus on Market St today, 10 minutes later it had not managed to get out due to the latest roadworks outside Barclays bank.
Absolutely useless temporary lights combined with every bus blocking Market St because of the Interchange farce.
Why anyone will want to visit the City centre ever again beats me, especially when all the public transport will be barred from it.
Only passed 3 beggars though, so that's an improvement.

As someone commented in T&A, the cheap rent deal must have ended.
No positive spin to put on this one, a little Market up Darley St is the best offering the clowncil can manage.

There are plenty of town/city centre dumps in the South too, not least in our capital

Yes, I’m well aware of that. I spent the first 24 years of my life in South Essex. Ever been to Basildon or Tilbury?
Fourteen years of Tory economic mismanagement have decimated plenty of previously prosperous places further south, as my post above about Bedford highlighted. But that doesn’t alter the fact that the south gets far more investment than the north and that they have slashed council budgets in the north much harder.

Last in Tilbury about 40 years ago due to my then job, apart from the docks cannot remember much about it.

I'm not disputing the fact that the south probably get more investment, but if anyone thinks that will change under Starmer, or indeed under any Labour government, they would be mistaken.

I wouldn't trust Labour to manage my grandkids pocket money.
