I completely agree and the word coming from the club that we have to move players on before we can add them is extremely worrying given that if anything, and despite the promises, the budget actually looks like it's been lowered this term.

I suspect, it’s typical City thinking they could have moved the dead wood on easily. Therefore, when Rupp is talking about extra funds for new players, he’s based that budget minus the players who are due to leave. As always, there’s never a plan B.

@Idlebantam@Idlebantam Rupp will give the club a running budget for the season which will cover everything this season the pitch repair has been necessary which will have covered in the budget which Rupp underwrites

Don't talk nonsense. The club operates on Rupp's sustainability model. We the fans are the basis for that whether that's because we pay for our tickets, for the merchandising, for our beer and pies and we are the basis for the advertising, sponsorship and commercial deals. The PL and EFL pay their dues under the various broadcasting deals. The away supporters put more into the club than Rupp does! All of that allows the club to breakeven under Rupp's model with in effect, the strain being absorbed by the playing budget. The playing budget is far from being a top 3 but could be much bigger, by at least a million, without breaching the FFP rules. But that would require Rupp to sanction it. So far, he has done nothing of the sort.

The only time when Rupp has underwritten the overall budget is when he allowed his former partner free rein in the operation of the club. That was Rupp's mistake, nobody else's. It was down to him and it cost him £1.7 mill as a loan to put it right. That was the right thing to do as the owner as the cost for him taking his eye off the ball. Beyond that, Rupp has done nothing so far to underwrite anything. Even his right hand man Sparks confirmed thst when he said in his time as CEO, Rupp had put nothing into the club since the club was being operated on a 'sustainable' basis. If you have any hard evidence to the contrary, rather than what you'd like to happen, please share it with everybody.

    Unless the club:
    • Pays off the ‘dead wood’ and the contracts are terminated by mutual consent.
    • The ‘dead wood’ are not registered (they have been given squad numbers), then there is a limit to the number of outfield senior professionals.
We are close to the full number of Senior Professionals with 20 signed. As things stand we could sign two more, if my figures are correct.

How the hell can you state that as if your the confirmation of all things to do with City and funding - you really are a muppet at times!

Thank you for the reminder, I will just go and bury my head under a pillow now. I thought Rupp in his latest statement said sustainability was not working and that he will make sure we can compete with the top teams. Here we are 6 weeks out of the window closing and 3 weeks from the start of the season, and the club is saying no more in until we move on players who will not be used.

I really hope he is true to his word. The recruitment to date with one exception doesn't fill me with confidence although time hasn't quite run out yet. But as you say, the idea that we have to move on a couple of players first is hardly inspiring. I don't recall that caveat being part of Rupp's open letter. No ifs, no buts, Rupp pledged to allow us to compete in the transfer market with the 'best' teams.

And put the pillows out of harm's way!

You're right @Dennis@Dennis he's had an easy ride so far, time for some action from him
Have zero confidence in him actually putting his pledges to work
We are and always have been an embarrassment to his portfolio
For some reason he seems to price his self out of sight with prospective buyers
Maybe he sees it shameful to not turn his investment into a profit I have no idea
He's playing with the club that means so much to so many (and getting away with it)

Sharp actually said that we can bring one more in without anybody leaving but if we want to bring in 3 or 4 we need to get some out which is common sense.

There’s little evidence that the budget has been lowered. No high earners have left the club, the new contracts for Halliday and Pointon which are very welcome will be a lot higher than they were on, the signing of Sarcevic will be on a significant salary. We paid a transfer fee for Wright plus now paying all his salary which won’t be cheap so not sure how the budget is lower.

11 pros left the club plus all of the loans and since then we've only brought in 5.

Chapman was reportedly on good wages and I don't imagine any of the new signings (Sarcevic aside) outstrip Ridehalgh or Derbyshire in wages so, if it's true we can't afford anyone else until we shift players then to me, that means the budget is lowered.

There is zero evidence the budget is lowered, what about the transfer fee for Wright and he will be on more than the likes of Ridehalgh and Chapman as he will have had a good contract at Plymouth. The players released like Hendrie ,Scales will not have been on big money. Sharp actually stated if you’d listened to the interview that one more can come in without anyone leaving contrary to what you’ve just stated.

It's easy to argue against something but state your point of view here. Is it your contention that the budget is the same but we're yet to spend all of it or are you saying that the budget is the same but we've used the wages of 10+ players to pay for 4 or 5?

Biggest thing I heard is that there has been very little contact on the players we've made available.

Sharpe is clear that we have told some players that they are available and won't be playing much but at present other clubs are not interested.

Sounds like we'll carry a heavy squad into the start of the season and hope to move some out in the final week or two of the window.
