Match Thread Away v Port Vale April 24th 3pm

I thought it was a very good first have with Vale being in-front from a stupid challenge from Crankshaw, players now a days feel a touch on their backs and go down otherwise 1 - 1, were not out of this.

 

Conceding so soon after scoring has floored us too.

 

I got to think he had the makings of a decent player having thought he was rubbish for ages. But I'm back to rubbish now. One to move on if we can.

 

With another potential 2/3 yards to add if required.

 

Fair do's we've gifted them 2 goals.

 

Watching this it's clear why they played 4-2-3-1 to me.

Defensively not solid enough so we need more numbers to prevent the opposition having chances.

Cooke is quality going forwards and creates opportunities but in a midfield 2 he's not good enough defensively and him and Watt aren't a good match. Cooke in that 3 though means he can have the impact up top without worrying about the defense.

Problem is two up top gives more threat. Cooke and Donaldson have looked decent enough as a combo.

 

Fordy we can not keep changing managers every six months. That really would be a joke of a club, We need to give these guys the summer transfer window and see how it goes at the start of next season. If after the first six or so games next season results and performances have not improved, then is the time to re think it and give another person enough time .

 

Whilst Sutton is doing ok at full back we would be better with Sutton alongside Cooke in 442

 

Hes massively over rated and id be happy if he was the first one out of the door come June!

 

Watt and Cooke lacks bite, I agree. But the bigger problems are the back 4. And the penalty is atrocious - Crankshaw switches off and he's late to follow his runner, then he stupidly puts his arm on their lads back. Thats just amateur. A new keeper, 3 new defenders and a midfielder who can win the ball, are all essential in the summer.

 

Do the out of contract players actually want to stay.
Good start but once the equaliser went in we disappeared.

I think we've more than match Vale going forward, a Vale goal from a hit and hope ball into the box we don't defend it and 1 - 1, then a pen because a forward thinks he can defend, why he needed to touch the guy I don't know.

Donaldson has a very good long throw, but game after game, our lot never get on the end of it. Whether itsbour box or theirs, our players show nowhere enough desire to compete physically

We're playing 4-4-2 but seem to have zero width. It's bizarre.

 

Oh for the Parky days. Davies, McArdle, McHugh, Hanson. All put their head where it hurts.

 

Canaan and Staunton are both left sided and are two slow to play together

 

It's never about the formation, it's about the players in it. Whether 4-4-2 or 3-5-2 or 4-2-3-1 if the players ain't good enough you can swap formations till the cows come home.
