Match Thread Away V Exeter City Saturday 6th February 1.00pm (with Poll)

We’ve been poor tbh, but can look a threat going forward, just need more composure on the ball and less kick and run. Still 2-1 up thanks to one of the most shambolic pieces of defending I’ve seen in a long time. Happy days if it stays like this.

 

Talking of Tuesday,Scunthorpes home match today postponed due to waterlogged pitch.

 

I don’t think we’ve been poor, I think we’ve been generally solid. We’ve not kept the ball as well as we could but let’s keep in mind, Exeter have scored more than anyone else in the division. They’re a dangerous side.

 

FCD is having a torrid time. Sparks is making his life a misery.

 

There’s no way Tuesday’s game will be on. Might suit US this time, with Cook and Rowe out. Karma, maybe.

 

A strange half as it didn’t feel like there would be 3 goals but we have taken our 2 chances well.
With no disrespect to Novak, Donaldson and Clarke but if that was our front 3 today there is no way we would have scored 2. Those goals came from pace and trickery and being able to put them under pressure on a tricky pitch.

 

Yer, we haven't controlled the ball well aside from 10 minutes or so in the middle of the half. They started quickly and I suppose they're at home so it's not unsurprising. We did well to get back in the game and went ahead but one area of focus for us seems to be consolidating. We sit back after scoring instead of trying to score again. Need to get better at pushing home the advantage.

Great to see some runs from Crankshaw and Vernam. Stevens hasn't done as much really.

 

Game plan working. Yes they have a lot of ball and work some good openings but how many clear cut chances have they fashioned.
Us on the other hand look like we've got more goals especially when they tire second half.

 

Not scored a goal like that since we had Nahki. A welcome return of pace up top!

 

FCD playing poorly, but not being helped by Stevens who I don't rate.

 

Bit harsh I think on city some around keeping the ball. I honestly think this pitch is dire. Looks to be bobbling all over and it seems to stick under the camera on that wing. Hard to get any flow of the game. Don’t necessarily mind the more direct balls we’ve been playing but do need it to stick more

 

I’d be half tempted to get Canavan on, and AOC to right back

We prat about with it to much at the back. We need Donaldson on to hold the ball up with Vernham on the left crankshaw on the right

 

The iFollow HT stats are bizarre. We’ve had no clear cut chances apparently. If you round the keeper and put it into an empty net, how is that not clear cut?

 

We are missing Rowe or Novak up top though as the ball isn’t being held up and is coming straight back at us. Something is working though with the attacking threat from midfield.

Yer, I suppose my point was that we seem aimless. Rather get it quicker to Crankshaw, Stevens, Vernam and ask them to run with the ball and stretch the game rather than some of the hoofs we've seen that they have to chase. Pitch is poor though.

 

I agree with that. Stevens off for Donaldson would a change I’d make either at HT or soon after.
