The key for me is getting Clarke out of the team. As I said on the Bolton thread, our attacks grind to a halt whenever he gets the ball, leaving the opposition all the time they need to get back. Cooke or Pritchard, Watt and Evans in midfield, though Cousin-Dawson did a decent job on Tuesday. And it has to be Donaldson and Samuels up front.

 

But he’s McClowns bestie. Can’t leave him out. He signed him.

 

Maybe Laurel & Hardy upfront.

 

Barrow away god help them. If they can't get up for Bolton and Harrogate they have no chance on a wet and wind day and night up there .....it gets dark at 12 lol

 

Pace is at a premium in Lg 2. Hosannah and Woods are great from the back. But up front? Slowmo. So McCall has to start playing Samuels from the start. He is fast as xxxx - whether or not he can ally that to scoring goals and assists for us, only match time will tell. But he has to be played. The lad will only improve and gain confidence from being given the shirt and the responsibility. Bit parts and subs won't help him or City.

 

Forgot to mention, my wife and her family are all lifelong Wolves fans and they really rate Samuels. They want him back there.

We are getting to caught up in speed. If you don’t have it you need a game plan that plays to what strengths you (may) have.

 

Plenty of salary cap space, next to nothing at striker yet the club doesn't want to bring in anyone.

Says it all really. No excuses.

 

We can’t seem to persuade people to sign.

Why might that be?

a. A club on a downward swing.

b. A manager with no record of success and a playing record so distant than many will have no idea who he is.

You DO need speed. But as you also rightly say, citing Rankin, it needs to be allied to a successful game plan, with players than can also deliver. But...it's chicken and egg. Without players who have genuine pace, who obviously have to deliver, the game plan's not going to work as well. Pace means surprise. And that's the conundrum.

 

Don't get me going on we should have signed Connolly again. I'm only just getting over it
