    From what I can see no one has achieved a top 3 automatic promotion in League 2 with 5 or less away wins in a season since 1997/98.

    And that stat won't change this season. If we are to go up we will have to win at least 1 more

    Indeed - the Vale game was only the 2nd time this season where we’ve lost by more than one goal (the other being the Notts game you mentioned) and of course we missed a pen in that one. We’ve definitely been “in” most games to varying degrees.

    Twelve of our 21 wins have been by one goal.

    Those aspects would seem to largely back up what you’re saying.
