That's the problem with our strikers. Jones only works as part of a front 3, Wyke can't play by himself, Mcarten was successful for Accrington playing in the Billy Clarke role and Poleon doesn't suit any system. Players have got to play to their strengths and none of them are really compatible. It's impossible to put a combination together where all of the on field strikers would be playing their natural game

Not a lot of thought has gone into putting our strike force together. They've just been chucked together in the hope that they'll click.

 

Jones as been training in Dubai for three weeks and seems up for it . One for our new head coach to sort . I do like Jones we need to fit him in.

Maybe this could work with McCartan playing just a little deeper as part of a front three?

 

M8, you missed Panzer. He's up top causing all sorts of aggro looking good too. If they can't play with him then what's the point?

 

Jones is too central. He prefers to come in from a bit wider which would often leave Wyke isolated and also push Mcarten out a bit wider. To accommodate Jones in is his ideal role would look something like this.

I hope Alex gets a run of games and comes good. He's like a new signing for us this season. If we can get him firing he'll contribute goals.

 

To date, the two most overrated players in our squad are Alex Jones and Shay McCartan.

The number of people clamouring for their inclusion based on flashes is reminiscent of Jack Compton, and several others I fail to recall at this moment.

Flashes of quality don't make a quality player; next season is make or break for these guys, but I won't be accepting "they never got a chance"-type arguments if they fail to make the grade. It's put up or shut up time, and they need to earn their place and keep it with consistent performances.

We don't need to build around bit-part players who sometimes offer something.

 

I think "The two most overrated players" is unjust, Jon.
It is true that many fans would still consider them worthy of a 'second chance' - But lets not forget that these players were signed on the back of what they achieved at their previous clubs. Don't all signings come from that same recruitment ethic? In addition, as has been stated - both had a disrupted season, so City didn't really get to see their worth. Yet, as you say ........ "It's put up or shut up time". Let's wait and see any results before throwing away any potential winning ticket, though.

 

I think there is a decent player there with Alex Jones. The number of injuries he has had is a real concern. Hopefully he can keep injury free, get his confidence back, and have a good season for us. We need him.
