    I think the manager should know how to pronounce his team members' names.

    I have a very simple 2 syllable first name. Here in Belgium, it irritates the bejaysus out of me to be called Nygul, Nidgel, Kneegel or Niggle. I always correct the ignoramuses getting my name wrong.

    Having said that, City do seem to choose some right tongue-twisting named players. Bring in more Polish players I say :thumbup:

    A-ha! So that, Molesworth, is where you've ended up!

    And add to the Poles a few more Irishmen with proper Gaelic names, the fearsome-looking ones where you end up ignoring, or collapsing into one sound, whole clusters of characters; and finish off with a few Estonians, where you can, in a word, have 4 of the same vowel in a row...or even 7 (mostly) different vowels in a row...

    I bet he can spell the names of his players correctly though. This is more than some posting on here can manage.
    Perhaps there should be a sticky post with a correctly spelled squad list for reference!

    Some clubs now issue team sheets to the press with the names phonetically spelled out so the commentators etc can correctly pronounce them.

    A couple of years ago we were playing Crewe who had a fullback called Perry Ng (pronounced “Ang”) but Tim Steere was literally calling him N-G for the whole game :brig:

    Spot on the players get so confused they can't concentrate how any manager can use anything but full names including middle names is beyond me

    Absolute chaos calling people nicknames the lads had no idea who the manager was

    I couldn't understand why he kept saying Peter Reid !!
