Wright is one of our top earners. For that, irrespective where he plays, he needs to look interested and win his individual battles. On more than one occasion in the second half he chose not to win a 50/50 or took the easy option. And before anyone says he's not a left back then I'd say he's a professional footballer. Attitude gets you a long way in every walk of life.
    Richards so much better.

I get the ref was trying to keep the game rolling in the first half. You can’t honestly believe that ref!s don’t influence strategy and results. We could all see what the Wombles strategy was. Disrupt the game. If the ref was doing his job he should have started pulling yellow cards half way through the first half.

The match itself was not one of our better efforts. The two CH were outstanding. However this was the type of game we were just glad we came out with a point.

The injuries are mounting up which is a real worry.

Wright played well in the first half, but when he had to move to full back in the second half ( to replace Richards) he was exposed for what he is ‘ not a full back’

I'm confused as to why Shepherd, "our worst defender by a stretch" has just started in back to back clean sheets and been a central figure in both.

I mean, he's not even been "excellent" yet like Baldwin was.

    Isn't that right @Captain Grumpy@Captain Grumpy

Seriously though, finally we have a couple of competent centre halves that give us half a chance of looking reasonably solid rather than the absolute mess we've seen give up chance after chance previously.

    I disagree.
I have never seen a team at VP that so persistently shirt-pulled and grabbed arms to pull back our players as Wimbledon did today. It was clearly a pre-determined tactic to stop us moving forward with the ball quickly. There must have been at least a dozen examples in the first half hour alone.
Once the Wimbledon players realised that the ref was not interested in clamping down on it they just kept doing it. It was some of the most pathetic, frustrating officiating I’ve ever seen.

A lot of other refs at our level are overly fussy, and I’m not a fan of that. I generally like to see refs let the game flow. But, in my book, that means allowing some robustness in the tackling rather than blowing the whistle at any hint of physical contact. But his complete failure to clamp down on a premeditated tactic of deliberate cheating was inexcusable. He should have warned the Dons captain after about ten minutes that he wouldn’t tolerate any more persistent shirt and arm-grabbing and that yellow cards would follow if it continued.
Add to that the two stonewall penalties he somehow missed and this was much worse than ‘normal L2 refereeing’. It was shocking.

You’re talking complete and utter nonsense. If you really think that Shepherd and Diabate were crap today then you clearly understand nothing whatsoever about football and should stick to tiddlywinks.

And yet you still don’t address the actual performance of the team. Enjoy your 0-0s and keep blaming the ref for the last/next x years in the bottom league.

Don't forget the players clapping the fans at the end of the game as well.

Watching it on Bantam TV, then your observations were clear to see. The amount of shirt pulling and literally pushing players in the back was very noticeable. The failure of FIFA to empower ASSISTANT REFEREES Line staff means players use these tactics time and again, particularly on the ‘blind side’ of the referee. Bluntly they get away with it.
I remember Forest Greens first visit to VP, they employed similar tactics but added kicking the ball out of play, goal keeper taking ages to bring the ball back into play (thankfully dealt with now) and their players auditioning for ground rollers, having been shot by City marksmen!

Its the same most weeks we fail and its down to the ref ?????
Did the ref really stop us from going forward ir gaving a lack of shots ??????

Listen before a ball is even kicked we simply know now that the officals are gonna be poor thats sadly a fact but the officals can only influence the game , they cant stop us actually going for teams can they ????

Yesterday's match "we should have had a penalty" is pretty much the same as the match earlier in the season "Cook was denied a clear goal"

Both matches where the focus is a singular incident in a match were we have failed to create many meaningful chances.

It's amazing how we have so many defenders out yet have a competent defence and the top end of the pitch is failing again, as many of us said it would. Sort it out, Alexander. We've been toothless for months.

Refreshing to see a sensible post regarding Wright, too easy for posters to simply dismiss the fact that he is playing out of his natural position therefore the player is crap

Can agree with this to some extent. He ain't a wing back and he certainly ain't a full back, his best form was in his first spell at the club when he was in the 3 of a 4-2-3-1. Best asset is getting him running into space, he's not particularly gifted technical wise.

As with many things at this football club, the criticism should really be directed higher up. What we really needed to bring in this summer was an actual LWB, not a player who GA felt he could mould into that role. That's something you do when you are hit with an injury crisis in that position during the season and have no other option than to utilise another player there, not something you do in the summer when you have the opportunity to actually target players that are comfortable and competent playing in that role. It's clearly a position we struggle to address properly for some reason , last season Oduor was brought in to play there - until he actually signed on the dotted line and then stated that it wasn't where he saw himself playing. I didn't want us to sign Wright in the summer, I like many others wanted us to sign an actual LWB. Why we didn't remains one of life's great mysteries.
