The Voice - Match preview 5: Bradford City vs Carlisle United Saturday 7th September 2024 3:00pm

Like I say, I'm not interested in the table after a handful of games. I'd like to see some performances that give me some confidence that we are going up. So far the performances have been an OK 6/10. I was hoping for better than that. The 'bedding in' scenario is the same as it is every season and equally the same for every other team in this league. From what I've seen we'll be on the fringes of the play offs. What gives you the confidence that we will be stronger than last season?

 

Not for me Aidrian despite the dollar investment. What ever they have spent it on, it seems to have ended up the bog wall. I was shocked how bad they were . Their ONLY stand out was the loanee from Bournemouth , the rest pretty poor tbh.

 

I dont like Carlisle. It dates back to Keith Curle’s time there (think he’s a w. Anchor). Anyway, it was a great following from them today and it really created a good atmosphere for once.

Was impressed with Diabate and thought we looked better with Walker in over Sarcevic and sanderson starting over kavanagh. Think Odour’s spot is still up for grabs.

Enjoyed the game. We looked dangerous on the break.

was shocked with how bad they were at the back.

If that Armstrong fella of theirs is worth £500k then Cook is a £2.5m man. Just saying!

(reality is they are having their pants pulled down in the market)

 

I think we have a stronger squad all round, we were poor at Grimsby and they weren't a great deal better so credit to Alexander for bringing in Walker, Sanderson, Oduor, and Diabate and getting a result, that was a big call in my book in front of a very good home crowed bolstered by 1700 that Carlisle brought, two new faces yes, but to give 4 players who had played little football a start took IMO some balls if we'd lost this place would have been in melt down, so I'll be very disappointed with anything less that a top 7 finish, but would obviously prefer an auto place.

 

Actually that it was a good enjoyable game, given other comments perhaps I was too wrapped in the occasion rather than the game.

It was decent performance in the majority, still not sure on the formation even though it was tweaked a little , it still felt like Carlisle had an extra man on the pitch as they seemed to have free men everywhere.

Never been biggest fans, but I though odour and Smallwood were really good today especially at relieving pressure and I'll admit I wasn't impressed when odour was replaced and Graham got a gobful .

Sanderson ran himself out and helped out cookie a lot whilst Jamie walker was Jamie walker.

Diabate and Byrne looked solid, diabete should be fine at this level though early doors looked like he would more comfortable with a bomb at his feet s than a ball but he soon settled down.

Kelly won some good header, and his usual fair share of tackles , I'm prepared to be shouted down but he isn't half as bad as tyreik wright makes him look.

It is scandalous that we haven't signed a left wing back, wright just doesn't fit the role. He leaves Kelly far too exposed by his naivety in the position but also his laziness when trotting back. Even going forward his last ball is often lazy and not thought through and is just a swing with no purpose.

 

I'll forgive the legend the odd miss. Lad really does carry us at times with his goals.

 

I think what surprised many was not the missed chance but the fact it looked like Andy tried to give someone a better chance by heading it back across goal that's not what Cookie does he's very much a confidence player and if he fancies his chances he'll have a go.

 

Every Carlisle fan I spoke to on the train home tonight were bigging up Odour.
They were really impressed by him.
His ball retention is the best in the squad imo.
Made one mistake the whole match.

 

Funny, i thought Smallwood carried on his good form but Oduor looked a bit lost, i would have pulled him or moved him to left back at the expense of Wright as Oduor always seems to play well with Pointon. To be fair Wright looked better when Pointon came on

Not for me. Struggled to get into the game as Walker took the lead.

 

A very big improvement, GA changing personnel - Jamie Walker, Oduor, Sanderson and Diabate coming in.
Now let's keep this side together for a while (sorry, except for Wright who we need a replacement for - get that right and we could go places)

 

Some of the stuff he was doing today was above League Two standard, the trouble is if the lad could keep those sort of performances up on a consistent basis he wouldn't be at Bradford City, the run he made from the half way line second half just getting the ball nicked as he drove at the Carlisle box reminded me of the James Lawrence dribble all those years ago. I hope Alexander persists with the lad.

 

Oduor is really unusual in that he combines looking superb on the ball with very little moments on the ball. If we can find a way to get him more involved he could be a real asset but the onus is also on him to increase his involvement.

 

I don't think there's much wrong with any of that. Maybe I'm asking too much but I was hoping for a bit more from the first few games this seasonin terms of performance. Walker is the key to our season imo. He stays fit and plays 30+ games and we have a good chance.

 

We got away with it today.. lucky win.

Our defending is still shit. Kelly is a problem

 

I think odour shows great moments. For me I’d just rather see him used further up the pitch.

we are overstocked further up the pitch at the minute though.

I think its a matter of time until teams target our left side.

 

Credit to Sanderson today didn't score but gave the Carlisle defence someone other than Cookie to think about
Cook would have appreciated not having 3 defenders round him all the time freeing him giving him space and he scored twice
Who would have thought that

 

Im the biggest moaning ceeyouhentea here but come on it was only our decision making that was the issue a huge improvement on last Saturday and a huge 3 points against a team that will eventually turn up

 

Thought we defended well today.

 

think you need to go to Specsavers, more composer and better final ball then we should have won by 3 or 4
