I think he knew once the referee went for his back pocket, as many have pointed out he's got away with some very tasty tackles but that's his game, not merely winning balls but also making the opposition know he's not taking prisoners but for the life in me why when were 2 - 0 up and cruising.

 

Absolutely gutted walking out The County Ground. RS did not help proceedings with his reckless challenge but GA absolutely took the piss with the half time substitutions. So pointless from GA as every time we attacked, they looked vulnerable.

Everybody having a go at Smallwood should remember it’s his game. It was a harsh decision but it shows how dependent we are on him as our first line of defence so this wasn’t just a massive blow in this match but also to our promotion credentials.

 

Im just lying here staring at my tv which has just turned itself off, in disbelief at what I just witnessed..

Ridiculous from Smallwood, who I've been a big defender of.

However, I don't think whatever GA did would have prevented arguably the most attack minded team in L2 on a red hot day run riot against 10 men for 75 minutes.

In fairness both Halliday and Adaramola showed as much attacking intent against ten men as Pointon and Pattinson, especially when you could see that there was no way those two were going to last deep into the second half, given that both are coming back from recent injuries. Last thing we wanted was either of them pulling something - so I thought it wise of GA to take them off.

Ironically, at last, the set up for playing away from home was perfect. Provided you keep 11 men on the pitch in energy sapping conditions.

And for those writing off our season - let's remember this is still totally in our hands. We've had taken that after the Notts County.

But yes, very depressing. Smallwood will be a big miss and we could see that as we had no-one controlling the middle of midfield, not certain ten men has much to do with that.

However, I trust Kella and Pattinson, with help from Pointon and Sarcevic to just about get us through. But wouldn't be surprised, if any of the above are not fit enough to start, to see something quirky like Baldwin (if fit) playing in midfield).

It's down to us. We all need to move on and hope we look back on this with wry amusement, i.e. the one time we look an attacking threat away from home we are hopeless defensively.

 

A massive long shot but wonder whether we might appeal the red card?
