One way or another Humphrys is yet again involved. We score goals when he plays at the point of the triangle. Pointon and Sarcevic usually picking up the scraps. Humphrys needed to get his head up but he deserves credit for the run and first touch. He makes things happen.

I don't begrudge any side staying up obviously, but my word was that a poor game of football between Vale and Rothers!

Nobody could have left in any doubt about why they are both where they are.

Getting the security footage from the stadium to prove the lino got one wrong...... a new level of petty that i'm completely in love with!

Matt's a bit thick, I'm afraid. The lino was behind, so he couldn't even see the ball; he wouldn't need glasses, but X-Ray vision. Plus that isn't conclusive. If anyone has ever seen any match where goal line technology is used and they see a ball in the air like this, then they'd know if can be a bit of an optical illusion. Many times, people have thought that a goal and the technology has proven otherwise. Most importantly, it can't be proved clear cut either way, so how can an officual make a call without guessing in real time? Is that what we want now, officials just guessing and giving all sorts of wild decisions?

First of all, in the days of digital ‘enhancement and correction’, then that picture could well have been created and altered.
Secondly even from that ‘supposed’ angle I am not sure ‘all’ the ball would have crossed the line.
I think some people do not understand the rules. The entire ball must clearly cross the line!

Like others have said, it's impossible to say either way, it could be just over or it could be just overhanging the line. If bookies were opening a market on this it would be 10/11 for each.
This is where I think football has a problem at the moment with over the top reactions and how people will ignore the evidence just to have a go at the officials, there is no way the assistant can be certain about this and he can't take a high probability guess as it is just too close so he's got the decision right. If this was evidence given to VAR there's no way they are awarding the goal as it is far from conclusive.

Feels like in recent seasons, the lengths fans are going to in the need to prove their points/arguments online is getting a bit beyond a joke. First time i can remember stadium footage being used in a desperate attempt.

Yet we struggled to beat both at Valley Parade, but that's nothing new with regards struggling teams.

The only relevant point at this stage is that the referee didn't award a goal at the time. There's no appeal mechanism in these situations. Somebody is pissing in the wind if he expects the result to change .. and in any event, the ref is always correct!

And I'd make the same comment if the situation had been reversed.

Who cares if it went in or not. Remember Jackson's first goal for us, which wasn't given due to a dodgy ref? These things even out over the season

I don't see how any of Vale, Northampton and Rotherham avoid relegation to be honest. Even if Vale win their 3 games in hand (unlikely with form and the effect of fatigue / squad limitations due to playing so many matches in such a short space) they are still 5 points of safety.

Exeter are the only one in the drop zone who look to have a chance of getting out of trouble. I hope their fight starts on Saturday by avoiding defeat against Plymouth as that would be good for us! Either way I hope their fate is sealed one way or the other by the final game as I don't want to be going there needing a point or more.

There will be a few looking over their shoulders as there's only 4 point between Orient in 15th and Exeter in 21st. Wimbledon are on terrible form and have a huge injury crisis right now so could very easily get sucked into relegation.

Who would have thought after the end of last season that we would do so much better than the rest who came up from L2. Vale likely down, Wimbledon and Donny looking down not up, city THIRD! :grinning:

The one he clearly handballed? Nothing dodgy about chalking that one off, it was 100% the correct decision.

Maybe you’re not remembering it correctly. It’s the goal which was given by the ref (so it seemed) but then the 4th official allegedly saw a tablet and they changed the decision

That was completely denied by the Donny staff, and replays showed it was clearly handball. So whilst the decision making was dubious, it was the correct decision to not award the goal

Just like Cookys "goal" last season that was actually clearly over the line but wasn't given.

The missed handball v Mansfield would be a better example tbh. That's the only time we've been truly screwed over this season.

That’s one of the worst reffing decisions I can ever remember. I was directly behind the ref, but 50 yards further away and I saw it clear as day. How the ref missed it is beyond me.
