There are a few aspects to whether it will be deemed handball in the scenario you describe. As we’ve said, Adaramola’s one fits the IFAB guidance on ‘not handball’ perfectly given the deflection off his foot onto his hand.

Generally with an incident of ball straight hitting the hand, the main elements the ref has to consider are placements of the arms (the ‘unnatural position’ debate) and distance between the defender and the ball (the further away you are, more likely it is to be given).

Players do indeed seek to avoid the issue altogether by placing their hands behind their back, but it doesn’t mean that if they don’t and the ball hits their hand then they’ll generally have a pen given against them.

It really has to be about trying to determine has the defender tried to deliberately gain an advantage (with their arm placement) and could they really avoid it (distance from the ball).

 

The sound commentary for Bantams or other means is provided by WYS, the commentary for sky+ is Sky from an office in London.. I had WYS and Morais last night…. It was Morais’s co commentator getting it wrong. I prefer watching that feed as opposed to Sky+ .

I have a theory that the teamsheet was printed wrong (Leigh on for Mellon) and that was the confusion as I heard from others that the problem happened on both Sky+ and BantamsTV

 

I really don’t get the negativity towards Mellon at all. I thought he was decent again last night, but started to tire in the second half, so was rightly subbed.

 

Louis Reynolds was covering for Jamie Raynor on Radio Leeds /Bantams player and getting Leigh confused with Mellon.

 

I'm sure he is as much behind the lads as any of us. I thought his post was credible, pointing out that we mix our game which is needed.

I'm working in Haverhill (between Cambridge and Bury St Edmonds) so it's a 75 mile drive to Bromley.
Was the same last week, working away in Rickmansworth so ended up getting the train to Birmingham from Watford then back and on site Wednesday at 7am.
I was knackered this morning but it's what we do.
Drive home Friday in time for the 8:30 train to Salford on Saturday.

Top man @vin weasel I remember back to the Norwich FA Cup game we went on the special train, got back in my bed at 4:30 the following morning but still clocked in at 7:30 to start my shift.

I flew down to Norwich on a special plane with the players once in the league cup. I was back home in time to watch the highlights!

 

There were no trains available for one game and my car was in the garage so I ran to London and back and was still at work for 8 o'clock. It's what us fans who aren't fickle do.
