Match Thread #3: Bradford City vs Bromley Saturday 24th August 2024 3:00pm

Grim morning, fingers crossed a City win brightens up the day! Had a thing in the back of my head that we don't seem to have a good record against the promoted teams and it's not the best.

20/21 - 3 points out of 12
21/22 - 7 points out of 12
22/23 - 5 points out of 12
23/24 - 4 points out of 12

5 wins, 6 draws and 8 defeats in 19 games against promoted teams since we dropped down to L2.

 

Interesting game this in that Bromley are very much an unknown in football league terms. They have momentum on their side with promotion last season and a great start to the season and I expect them to come to VP with a set up to try and win rather than defend a draw.
For us I'm wanting to see a dominant home performance for once rather than the usual laboured 45 followed by a better second half.

 

I hope they do come to play.

The “park the bus” excuse is an easy out when you fail to break teams down due to the same,tired old tactics of just lumping it forward to Cook.

A good home record is essential if we want to do owt this season.
That means adapting to different situations and not trying the same old stuff and just hoping it works.

 

I'm not sure why any team would come and park the bus at any ground in league 2, there simply isn't a decent enough team in the division to warrant it. Put me in the opposition managers shoes, I'd be telling my team to press the hell out of us, especially in the middle of the park where I think we are very weak.

 

It could be a very frustrating watch for sure. Bromley in both their games so far have been happy to sit back and let the other team have the ball, so far only Fleetwood have had lower possession than Bromley. Bromley are also 23rd in the table for short passes so far, we've hit the 4th most long balls so far, could be a neck ache day!

We're 20th in the table for possession so far, Bromley 23rd as said. So it's two teams who haven't been used to having the ball as much in the first two games..... someone must want it today!

 

We've shown glimpses of being able to move the ball, usually after Oduor and Pointon have come on. If we can set a strong foothold from the start I can't see us losing but if we just keep.going long we just play into their hands.

 

Maybe not “park the bus” but some people still seem surprised that the opposition put two big CH’s on Cook and then wonder why we struggle to break them down.
Kav looks lost in his new role and really offered nothing at all.
We struggle to score goals with 11 players so we certainly can’t afford any forward players to be so far off the pace.

Last week’s first half was as limp as anything under Hughes and only really changed when Pointon and Oduor came on.

This was solely down to the upping of the forward momentum and a couple of players trying to up the tempo.

I hope at least one of them starts today.

But ultimately someone will have to get AT LEAST 50 percent possession today lol that is a mathematical fact.

 

I have the same hope but in reality, it's more likely at least one of them will be dropped from the matchday squad altogether to accommodate a loan player who signed yesterday and has had one training session with his new team mates.

 

If he picks the same starting 11 as last week, this is only going one way.
