Yeah the reason why the top data analysts earn the top dollar. The important stat being who scores more wins. The possession stat generally useless unless you actually do something with it. Can't remember which team it was but their best and most accurate passers by stats were there centre backs, primarily because they simply passed from one to another for most games.

I think your being a little harsh, Wimbledon created little, the goal was Sunday league defending, but your right once they went ahead they looked very capable of defending the goal but a very close game that we lost because unlike Wimbledon we couldn't defend.

 

what if it ends up costing promotion? Does it make sense then?
Pointon has been a key part of the recent run, we aren't good enough to be swapping key players out of the team, especially away from home.

 

You might be right Broncs. I'm just so disappointed by how little threat we posed when faced by a decent side. Just like Notts County and Doncaster. I'm thinking I might have been fooled by our performance last week when Walsall are clearly in the middle of a major crisis. And we could easily have drawn with Morecambe on Tuesday. We just don't have the firepower upfront, especially when playing away.

 

If we don't get promoted it won't be down to 1 decision and nobody can say what would have happened if Pointon played today.

you dont rest players for games against your main promotion rivals so they are fresh for a mickey mouse cup, if you do you are asking for trouble.

 

I mean that’s just plain stupidity!! Did we really do that?

If so then this club really isn’t serious about promotion. If it cares more about a Mickey Mouse cup then going up to league 1 then for me that speaks volumes to the fans!

 

I think someone at the club, whether it be Sparks or Sharpe or Rupp himself, needs to make sure Graham understands one thing perfectly clear: promotion, promotion, promotion.

That is all that matters this season, literally nothing else, if for some stupid reason we kinda need success in the cup to cover a shortfall then Rupp himself will have to cover that, because again: promotion, promotion, promotion.

Stuff Wembley, we should be finishing top 3, don't even want the playoffs at this point, it is literally all there to play for and next season looks far better with a promotion than it will with an irrelevant cup in our dusty trophy cabinet.

 

Today’s result won’t define whether we achieve promotion or not. Equally nor will one player.

I get all the points, but think this is being dramatically blown out of proportion.

 

Why what has he been doing with them?

 

Losing to a rival in the top 7 (who are now above us and have a game in hand) could well mean we miss out on the autos by a few points so I would disagree, we should have one out and out priority this season, automatic promotion.

We perhaps think we are being clever resting players , we should have only one aim and thats promotion. Stuff that crappy cup, it could end up being a distraction that means we fail on both counts.

 

Every point counts when attempting to gain promotion so to say these kind of games can’t define a season, they really can

We were playing a rival to the automatic stops(not discussing play offs) and the league is tight.

We should not be thinking about shi&e competition that no one cares about.

 

I don't think Pointon would have got a kick. He has his more moderate games against attritional teams.

To be honest it just made sense, regardless of the mickey mouse cup. And it's not as though we haven't created - according to the BBC we had lots of touches in their box, just not the killer one. Plus his replacement, Leigh seemed to be our most dangerous player.

The Maradona comment was of course a joke. But far too many fans overlook Pointon's weakness's and give him far more credit, when they don't give that to other players.

We need to be more analytical about him, just like we are with the others. He's going to be a great player, but it's not some kind of terrible error if his manager occasionally drops him.

 

Yes of course, it’s a highly misleading stat.

 

We have won three six pointers since late Dec, we can’t win every game !
