Cooky would ADD to the midfield goals scored. Not instead of them

Shows how shit this league is that a team that relies on long throws and lumping it forward are top of the table by a country mile.

Yesterday we showed them how to play the beautiful game and deservedly won.

Think they rely on a very high press, to be honest, and from what I can see it's worked most weeks.

That would also explain how we were able to break on them so often despite being the home side and one that wasn't even looking to play counter attacking football.

It just didn't work for Walsall yesterday, but I wouldn't panic if I were a Saddler. Some you win, some you lose playing that sort of style. Credit to our players for not gifting them a single thing (except the penalty).

I think you have got this wrong? We succeeded in not allowing them time on the ball.

The same McEntee that played centre midfield?

We made the runaway leaders look average. And it was us not them. They started well but tailed off after 10 mins or so.

They lost Matt after we were already ahead I think. Before he went off i didn't notice him and we had done our homework with their set pieces.

It's interesting, we now have a squad that GA has mainly built since he came in and it looks to be working well. We won't win every game but we look to have something special building. We have our players back from injury, which has helped.

I'm of the opinion a manager needs maybe 4/5 transfer windows to get the players he needs to play a system before you can judge and what do you know.... after 3 it looks to be clicking.

People called for his head earlier this season... I've always been confident this season we would be up there. Even when we were having a rough patch. We had 5 of our current starters injured. That's 50% of the outfield team.

That was one of my first comments with regards long ball and long throw ins, to be fair although some may disagree losing Matt who is their hold up player up front may have altered the way they played, but your right we played as well as we've seen this season.

Amazing , we win and win well and its nothing to do with us, but how poor the other team were and how poor the league is.
Just enjoy the victory and save the moaning till 9.30 tomorrow evening.
I have a horrible feeling Dirty Derek and his band of no hoper's, will try every trick in the book, to get one over on us.
Please let me be wrong and the current City boys are more resilient .

Excellent post. We did our homework and put a plan together which made them look average and it doesn’t appear they have a plan B. They have had no worse injuries than we have, we are playing without the best striker in league 2.

Totally agree. I fully expect he will come with his plan A whenever he graces the VP turf. It’s called park the bus and there is no plan B.

Cooke , Songo and Hendrie will all have the games of their lives.
Angol will miss out though after his red card at the weekend. You might think he had been sent of on purpose , so he misses the ridicule.

I am sorry if you misunderstood my post. I was just highlighting how taken aback I was by how Walsall set up to play. I thought they would be a good attacking team with plenty of good players and some real ability but all I saw was long throw ins and the keeper or defenders wellying it upfield at virtually every opportunity.

I don't think anyone has said we weren't worthy winners. Probably the best I have seen us play for years.

I don't think anyone has said that to be fair although there has been acknowledgment that they were missing key players which is also fair.

Not aiming at any one in particular Keefly, just see a few saying Walsall were poor. i prefer to put it that we were very good and stopped them playing their way, which has been very sucessful for them, hence the huge gap to second place, that will almost certainly see them promoted, bar a complete collapse in form.
The way they play is mirrored many times throughout league 2, but a really good football team will come out on top more often than not in my view.
5 wins or 1 in 4 from their last 20 games means 4th place need to win 11 of their last games, just to draw level on points.
We would give anything to be in that position, no matter how the game was played.
