Brunker scoring in the EFL trophy is right up there for me.

 

I spoke to big Geoff about his season ticket plan. He said he thought it was a great investment because his plan was to be in the PL and qualify for European competitions. Bless! He also said it was a no brainer for me because if it all went wrong and we dropped out of the league I’d still support the club week in week out. He was n’t wrong… on either account. Mystic Geoff!! Got to say, when I bought it it felt like a season ticket for life. Amazing that it’s over but what a great ride!

 

yep totally felt like a no brainer at the time. I remember telling the Leeds fans in my pub at the time in Pannal and they couldn’t believe it. They said they would bite their owners hands off for one even if it was five times the price

Yes weirdly that result ultimately led to financial disaster for both us and L**ds. Us beating Liverpool kept us up and also sent them into the Champions League and they subsequently over extended themselves in trying to maintain that level which ultimately sent them into meltdown.

 

Well we still have the thorny issue of the ground ownership....

It was the post season lunch between big Geoff and Jewel that was the start of the problems

I think that was his daft attempt at motivation!! I don't believe for a second that he thought Jewell would jump ship, but if my boss told me that my performance wasn't up to scratch and he was considering alternatives, I'd start looking elsewhere!

 

Especially after you had just performed a miracle and brought home that big contract again

Well that was Rhodes junior and his fall out with Gibb
He could have kept him onside and not pissed him off
Could have been a completely different situation now
As it is , it’s taken 20 years for the parties involved to even broach the subject
Not that we could afford the asking price currently

 

I think he was on his way regardless ..................had Jewell just been left to getvon with the job then our history may have been a lot different but you never know ..............great getting there dont get me wrong the PL that is but it always felt false to me especially the fanbase unlike now

 

Big Geoff was the single biggest influence on the growth of the club, despite many claiming he was the one that killed us.

Without him, we'd be nowhere near what we are today in terms of fanbase, stadium size and history.
