Greg Leigh was the fella. I remember Wood, although I’ve forgotten about him. Tipped for great things and I was disappointed when he left, but seemingly it hasn’t worked out for him. Just signed a new contract with Tranmere. Leigh is with Oxford and they are in L1 playoffs so he could potentially be a Championship player next season.

 

Definitely NOT thinking about Chicksen. Although he’s had a decent career after us.

Ah right. Personally I thought Wood was slightly better than Leigh, hence when he left us he signed for Orient a division above. But yes I also liked Greg Leigh, always thought we should've done more to keep him but someone with his ability wanted to start regularly, unfortunately we had Meredith keeping him out. 2 great LB's at once...like London buses(!) I think he only played half a dozen games or so but didn't he score in consecutive matches? The league one was against Scunthorpe but the cup goal I think was Dartford or Aldershot or something, a non-league team?

 

Aldershot rings a bell now you've said it and yes, I think he did score in the league game prior to that match as well.

No. Nothing like Derbyshire because Smith can actually still contribute to the playing side.

Derbyshire was finished when we signed him, that's why he had to travel to India to get a gig.

 

He told Luke Hendrie he wasn't signing him permanent because he wasn't good enough. And we were a top end L1 side at the time so he was absolutely right.

Flip side is if he had offered him a 3 year deal - fans would have been equally as outraged.

 

Kelvin Mellor (Accington) and Lee Angol (Sutton) are both free agents. Maybe a second chance at redemption?

Can he though? He was absolutely gash at Salford and got subbed. His only threat was his “size” . He failed to do anything with it Dave. A season older next term so it’s a resounding no for me , we don’t want to see another “ end of career “ deal, which what I was alluding to with Derbyshire.

 

I'd take Watt back. Similar role to Smallwood, except he's a bit more dynamic (not difficult). I don't think he'd come back here though, as he might - wrongly or rightly - think of it as a backward step. The games he played in when I've watched him vs us, he looked good. Why did they release him I wonder?

 

Yep, Ive seen quite a few names. Im not excited by Marquis and Croasdale.

Josh Windass and Charlie Wyke will be free agents. That would put a few bums on seats.

 

I see Callum Cooke has been released by Hartlepool despite playing 37 times (5 goals, 5 assists).

 

Funny that isn't it. Rahic was actually right about Hendrie. perhaps he did know football after all, and perhaps he wasn't meddling as much as the legend says. Maybe not though.

 

From memory, we offered him a contract when his came to an end, but he was quoted soemwhere as saying he could play at a better level (or words to that effect) and a day or 2 later he was unveiled by the mighty Salford

 

Who have finished below us in each of his season there !

 

I think they wanted to keep him but he had made it clear he wanted to move on. Probably league 1 bound.
