Yep, Platt was one of the better centre backs in division two and my heart sank on the day he left, not just because I knew we were losing a good defender for this league but I knew like previous seasons the signings would be inferior and done on the cheap/or in budget.

 

We need short term cover and this fits the bill. Plenty of sticks to bash the club with but this ain't one of them. Central midfield cover next.

 

I've seen some Carlisle fans wishing him well and he seems well thought of, he could be a good short term signing.

 

Must be fantastic, no other clubs wanted him.

Agree. Utilising whatever resource we have available to manage cover. Don’t see what other option the club had other than risk no cover at all.

We can debate the quality of the ins versus outs, injury records etc, however no one can debate we’ve been dealt an unlucky stick with the injuries to 3 of our main CB’s.

Experienced CB who’s kept as fit as possible via the PFA camp on paper is a logical approach.

On the plus side, he's been training with us a couple of weeks so we must know if he's fit.

 

There are far more players than club spaces. Just because he hasn't signed for anyone it doesn't mean he wasn't wanted by anyone. Apart from 2 years at Yeovil he's always played in the north so straight away if he wants to stay in the north he is limiting his potential clubs.
I remember last season when people were complaining about Sam Walker and that hasn't turned out too bad, this time last year he was still a free agent.
He's an experienced player who's played in a back 3, knows the league well and will an option on the bench as cover as we've been without a CB on the bench since the Walsall game. This also means we don't have to rush back Baldwin or Byrne. If we want to go to a back 3 either tonight or before one of them 2 return we can do it with Huntington in the middle.
It's as low risk a signing as we can make.
