I mean.... technically yes. But crediting them with the promotion is a challenge. Byrne played 937 minutes of L2 football for Stockport. Putting that into perspective, Luke Oliver and Michael Nelson had a few hundred more minutes in our 2013 promotion season than Byrne did last season.

Callum Johnson played even less at 874 minutes last season, he barely qualified for his promotion medal. They technically are promotion winners in the same way Jonathan Greening won the Champions League in 1999.

Alexander has said today that we won't be bringing in Smallwood cover as Pattison can play there. Interestingly, Oduor can play that position too according to Alexander!

That's one of the daftest thing I've ever heard from a pro manager to be fair. I had to rewind it and see if he actually meant Odour or some other new signing I'd never heard of.

There were points last season when Smallwood went off the boil and looked tired. He can't play every game and moving our main midfield attacking threat in Pattison to a deep lying midfielder blunts our attack. We need another option in there to give Smallwood a break.

 

It was someone who started pre-season well and then scored so his club held on to him. We then agreed him to move and he picked up a niggle. GA said he'd see by the end of this week how that was going/healing before bringing him in because it wasn't a position we needed someone for anyway. I suspect he'll probably can it now and use the funds for a first 11 player.

 

You think the extra 50€ Rupp has stumped up will stretch that far?

I agree about Smallwood despite the criticism he gets on here at times I don’t think you will find better players in that position in this division. That is apart from his set pieces but he needs competition in there it’s a priority in my opinion
