I'd have had him in the squad before Odour who I don't rate a fig , but to be he honest Odour did quite well when he came on.

 

Smith didnt even make the bench!!!! That is my point....

 

I really don't think there's anything to the Gillead rumour, suspect just tis the season for suggesting every player who doesn't make the squad is on his way.

 

The back up RWB is out injured, we left the back up LWB out of the squad and we are about to sign another CM. And Gilli still didnt make the 18.

Doesnt look good for him.

 

Over the course of the season he'd still get plenty of games though, particularly give our injury track record. Someone had to miss out of the squad and he's not the type of player to make much difference off the bench so there were better options, doesn't necessarily mean they're more likely to start a game ahead of him necessarily.

Anyway, my point still stands that more than likely the 'rumour' is just someone assuming because he's not in the squad he MUST be going rather than actual knowledge from anyone that might be the case

 

If he ends up moving @Doodle I'm happy to transfer the bet to his appearances for the new club. It probably means I'll have to pay out again but it's all for a good cause.

 

Really? We can only use 18 on the day (17 if we always have Doyle on the bench). All clubs have bigger squads than 17. Game by game that 17 outfield players will change. To me nothing in any being left out. Oliver did well when he came on. Really helped the game management.

He certainly did….there were a lot of groans yesterday when he took Cook and Wright off at the same time, but I said to my lad he did this a few times last season and got it spot on, so we’d have to trust him. Worked out well in the end

 

My mistake, it was 20 starts (not appearances) in the league but it was Oduor

I think my point went straight over your head.

In short - Oliver and Young could/probably will leave and Smith will stay. He missed out to 2 players we are showing the door.

 

Yeah it did. Odour gave us an outlet to hold onto the ball when we needed it. Gillead wouldn’t have given us that, Smith neither.

 

One thing about Oduor, which I think is often overlooked, is once he has the ball at his feet he almost never gives it away

 

Oduor is useful in the circumstances like yesterday. He isn't afraid to carry the ball up the pitch and he invites tackles so can win free kicks. He just isn't a wing back or anything defensive. He needs to be further up the pitch.

Ironically, Smith would have been ideal to bring on yesterday as well because we needed someone to stretch the game and run the channels. This hoofing up the pitch business is hopeless. All it did was give them the ball back. If Kavanagh could have passed the ball yesterday we'd have had at least three breaks/counters. I hope he learnt from yesterday because he was poor in the second half and then Oliver came on and we lost the movement we needed again.

 

Seemed a bit strange after preseason and transfer talk that Young was in the squad and Smith wasn’t. Just wonder if he picked an injury up

 

Yes, was wondering the same, same with Gilliead perhaps?

 

Smith problem is he gets knocked off the ball by a 15 year old . I’m not sure against big defenders he would run the channels or hold the ball up at all.
