I agree with you about Platt, and no, I haven't just started thinking that since he left and I was gutted when he did. I hope I'm proved wrong but his replacement feels like a downgrade to me. That said, I also agree with you that we will be alright but whereas you seem to be quite happy with 'alright', I want better than that. I want us to be promoted and as things stand, I think the squad we have is currently 3 or 4 quality players short of us having any chance of achieving that.

 

Spot on. My childhood, teenage years and 20s were fantastic following this club. We had some bad years, but between those late 80s and 2000, there was a real connection to the fans and a palpable sense of ambition. We had some exciting and quality players, and match days were a great day for fans. Even under Lawn tbf, our resources were very limited, but we had a bit of a go.

There’s nothing but incompetence now. Such a shame.

I posted this yesterday on the pre season thread but it should probably be in here. Sam Graham, the trialist that played for us in the 2nd half against Guiseley is training with us in Austria. It suggests we are either pretty keen on him, or he has already signed and it will be announced at some point whilst they are away.

 

Well then I disagree with you, for the reasons stated.

 

That's perfectly reasonable. I just don't think we're quite finished this window yet and we haven't been a million miles off this last couple of seasons. I like GA, I think he'll have the players running through brick walls for us this season and if it all clicks we have enough quality going forward to blow teams away. Jury is out on the defenders but I feel like perhaps they're not going to turn out to be as bad as everyone is panicking they might be.

I just don't think the sky is falling in just yet. Looking forward to being bitterly disappointed again! It's the hope that kills you...

There's no harm running the rule of thumb over this young centre back.
Apparently Sharpe said we are trying to sign someone to cover Kelly's absence if he becomes unavailable.
The Austrian training camp is an ideal opportunity to see if he's got what it takes.
Our management team must have seen something about him to even consider taking him with the them.
I didn't go to Guiseley so can't comment on his 45 minute performance in a pre season friendly but that's s hardly a given reason to sign him.

 

I was very sorry to see Platt go and reserve judgment on replacements but I do know that from midfield forward we are as good as anything in this league enhanced by the Signing of Sarcevic (a coup) and the return of two players unavailable last season

This is what I have a problem with. We should be recruiting better players than the likes of Kelly, rather than looking for cover.

Sarcevic and Wright apart, the other 3 signings scream of squad players as opposed to improving what we already had.

 

Absolutely mate, This close season so far has been depressing enough after all the talk of investment, iff we get off to a poor start it wont take long before the natives become restless, we are all city fans on here and want to see our club up there competing with the best but iff this continuous circle of premises again falls short people will vote with there feet and this time most will find more interests to do on a Saturday afternoon.

 

Just ask Gillingham what happens when you invest, it must be a bad idea

 

Didn't Rupp say we are too big for league 2 in his post season bulls*hit
interview. It's a shame the summer recruitment doesn't bear that out. It's a recruitment strategy that says we are doomed to league 2 football for a while yet.
